Emmy Night

It's Emmy night!

(On a Monday in August... thanks, NBC, he muttered sourly).

Parris and I will be off to the Nokia Theatre in a few hours, battling the inevitable traffic jams, which will be much worse than usual because, well, it's a Monday in August.

GAME OF THRONES scored 19 Emmy nominations, more than any other program, and took home four awards last weekend in the technical categories.  Tonight we are contending in five more categories: Neil Marshall for directing, David and Dan for scripting, Lena Headey for Best Supporting Actress, Peter Dinklage for Best Supporting Actor, and of course the show itself for Best Drama.

Whether we will win any remains to be seen.  Pretty much everyone is saying that BREAKING BAD has this year locked up.  Maybe they are right.  But last week pretty much everyone was saying DOCTOR WHO had the Hugo locked up as well.  Can GAME OF THRONES score another upset, and break through the Academy's long-standing aversion to fantasy and science fiction?  We will know in a few hours.

That's why they play the games.

Anyway (all together now), "it is an honor just to be nominated," and the after parties are always fun.

Anxious indeed...
I'll be watching for sure.

Best of luck to everyone involved. Your books and the show have given me so much joy.

May the winds of fate bring you great fortune on this warm August evening in the balmy city of angels Ser Martin and fair Lady Parris.

I will anxiously watch this evening for the results that will make us all very pleased.
The people want GOT, that's pretty obvious. The Academy may want to appease more important people in their view. Let's hope for the best but no matter what the outcome, WE all know who the winners truly are.

My favorite moment of Loncon 3 was running into Pat Cadigan just as she hugged Brian Aldiss. One of my other favorite moments was realizing that I was standing a few people behind David Benioff and Dan Weiss as they patiently waited to buy their pints in line with everyone else after winning their Hugo and realizing that they genuinely cared about that particular award and about being at the WorldCon to accept it.

Good luck with the Emmy, and have a lovely time at the parties.

Good Luck
I obviously enjoy the heck out of GOT and I have no doubt that the show will win a few of the awards it is nominated for. However, like you said this is Breaking Bad's year.

That being said, the Red Wedding should have won something last year and I guess it would be poetic justice for GOT to take something this year.

I was a D1 athlete in college, so I know what it is to be and admire those of us that are, ultra competitive (which I count you as one). However, I have to say you've mastered the "humble brag" with all this Dr.Who talk. Maybe just give the other shows their due.

Best of luck. There are SO many quality shows on these days that the competition is steep. Thank goodness! Its such a good thing to have to make decisions as to what to watch now on TV, (or computer or phone or iPad) rather than the mundane sitcoms I grew up with. And thank you and HBO for being such a big part of that. Quality story writing and acting, who knew? Go Dragons! Go Fantasy! Rah Rah Rah! :)

I hope you and Parris have a blast tonight. Oh, and winning a few awards would be cool, too!

Best of luck!

Best of luck!! I imagine that at some point of the show's run you guys will definitely get the big prize - even if it's for the final season, much like how Return of the King was the one that won all the Oscars.

Saw your ice bucket challenge video by the way! Who was in all attendance? Enjoy the rest of LA, and have a good trip home.

I enjoy watching it now
just to see if I can catch a glimpse of you alls. Kind of like GoT was something I could finally say, "this is the kind of thing I like" to work friends and etc.

Did you know about the typewriter ahead of time?
Aug. 26th, 2014 03:10 am (UTC)
Sorry for the lack of an Emmy tonight, Sir. I was really hoping GoT would get at least one, whether it be for Peter, Lena or David & Dan. While breaking Bad is a good show, sweeping the entire table was a little over the top in my opinion.

Here's to hoping for a more balanced win next time. :)

I LOVED your appearance on the show tonight.

You've been immortalized by Weird Al - how awesome is that?
Aug. 26th, 2014 02:57 pm (UTC)
Did you get to keep the typewriter?

And while GoT may not have won last night, congratulations on the four Emmy awards it did win.
