Skunked Again

0 and 5 last night.

What can you say?  BREAKING BAD was a juggernaut.  A great show with a great final season.

(But Peter Dinklage was robbed).

Personally I am now 0 and 6 in the Emmy derby.

This was the 66th annual Emmy Awards.  66 years, and no science fiction or fantasy series has ever been honored.  Many have been nominated, yes.  None have ever won.

Just sayin'

Breaking Bad was an excellent show, but it was by no means "better than sliced bread," like what everyone is making it out to be.

I know I have to find you at Worldcon to get my "Hugo Loser" ribbon, but who do you have to find at the Emmy Awards to get an "Emmy Loser" ribbon?

You are totally right
We're on the same page, Mr. Martin, especially about Peter Dinklage and Lena Headey. Let's hope for things to change soon...

GOT will win for its final season.

It will be similar to when the motion picture academy honored Peter Jackson and the cast and crew of LOTR for "Return of the King," letting the conclusion stand in for the whole trilogy.

It's stupid, since each season and performance should be judged on its own merits, but I think that's just how the Emmys roll. Which means no matter how good GOT is next year, "Mad Men" will win because... it's the last season of Mad Men.

So, whether it's season Seven, Eight, or Nine (pretty please), that's the time to look forward to some fantasy recognition.

Don't worry, George. While you and the actors were robbed, GOT will have a much more lasting affect on American and world cultures than any of these Emmy-getters.

Breaking Bad is over. I predict GoT will make tv history at the Emmys next year. And you got a typewriter. That was pretty cool.

How are you enjoying the typewriter that was dropped on your lap?

Game of Thrones should have won last night for a certainty. Whatever man you're still awesome and we still love and honor your books more than any books or tv series ever existed in the history of mankind.

The better times of Peter were on the second season, now he barely have screen time (well, in this season he had an [awesome] entire episode but not much beyond that). Let's see what the new seasons will bring.

Emmy voters are hacks
One would think our beloved genre would get its due. Nope. They don't let our kind vote. They just wanna lock us in a closet somewhere.

Well, it sucks a bit, but in the end Emmys and Oscars are not very significant compared to the grandest prize of all: the Test of Time Award. I very much doubt if Breaking Bad, as good as it has been, will end up getting that one. Tolkien (<-- fantasy guy!) seems to have won it, looking back on his work more than half a century after the release of his books and more than 10 years after the movies. I have read and seen a lot of other fantasy material since and if it were up to me, Song of Ice and Fire (/GoT) is not only the next nominee in this category, but already well on its way to winning it. What you are creating is not only good, but it is epic and truly timeless as well.

Also, as a nerd, part of me really hates going mainstream. Having the books translated into an HBO series is all well and good, but winning major tv awards? Would your fans still be able to call themselves "nerd" afterwards? If not, I definitely prefer it like this. At least we can all shake our angry fists at the Emmys people and then get back to drooling over the upcoming release of the 'World of Ice and Fire' book without anyone else noticing us :P
