San Diego Flashback

I did so many panels, presentations, interviews, and speeches during these past two months that they all blur together.

Here's one, for those of you who could not be at comicon this year - the 'Rulers of the Realm' panel from San Diego.

A lot of panels are deadly, which is why I have mostly stopped doing them, but this one was great fun.

(Diana Gabaldon's bit about her writing process was pure gold).

Enjoy.

THE most interesting SDCC panel EVERRR! Can you please repeat your book suggestions, Mr. Martin? Robert E. Howard, Tolkien, and who else? Couldn't catch all of them. Those two names are the only ones I knew.

4 Pillars
Fritz Leiber (Fafhrd and Gray Mouser series) and Jack Vance were the two fantasy writers GRRM mentioned before going on to history, historical fiction, etc.

Storytelling as art
Most interesting. I'm a storytelling geek. I like hearing them, analyzing them and discerning their origin. Nothing is truly original, anymore. Sure, it is different but not original. The new stories touch on old stories which are our friends and constant companions. This is why we like them.

Great panel!
I've read three of the five authors on the panel with active intentions to read the other two. Great stuff! I love watching your processes and your personalities!

The only panel that I enjoyed more than this one from this year's Comic-Con was probably the Orphan Black panel. But this panel is easily my second favorite.

I especially loved the stuff about the maps, and obviously Diana Gabaldon's writing process. The whole thing is great, though. I'm not a writer myself (well, technical writer to some degree I guess) but I find these kinds of insights into the creative process incredibly fascinating.
