Back to Jokertown

There's trouble brewing on the mean streets of Jokertown once again.

You can read all about it in LOWBALL, the latest volume in the Wild Cards series of mosaic novels, released in hardcover by our friends at Tor on November 4, and now available at your local bookstore or your favorite online retailer.

The cover is once again by the amazing Michael Komarck, featuring David Anthony Durham's character IBT, aka Infamous Black Tongue.

The table of contents:

“The Big Bleed,” by Michael Cassutt, starring STUNTMAN,
“Those About to Die,” by David Anthony Durham, starring INFAMOUS BLACK TONGUE,
“Galahad in Blue” by Melinda Snodgrass, starring FRANCIS XAVIER BLACK of the NYPD,
“Ties That Bind” by Mary Anne Mohanraj, starring MICHAEL STEVENS of the NYPD,
“Cry Wolf” by David D. Levine, introducing THE CARTOONIST,
“Road Kill” by Walter Jon Williams, starring GORDON THE GHOUL,
“Once More, for Old Time’s Sake” by Carrie Vaughn, starring EARTH WITCH, CURVBALL, DRUMMER BOY, and JOHN FORTUNE,
“No Parking… “ by Ian Tregillis, starring RUSTBELT.

Special thanks this time around to Melinda Snodgrass, who stepped in heroically to help with the editing on this one when I was being crushed beneath the weight of other deadlines. I could not have pulled this puppy together without her.

LOWBALL is  the second volume in our Jokertown triad, and the twenty-second in the overall series.  And no, before someone asks, you don't need to start at volume one... though volume one is pretty swell.   INSIDE STRAIGHT (volume eighteen) and FORT FREAK (volume twenty-one) also make great entry points for a new Wild Carder.

The twenty-third volume, HIGH STAKES, is in the works.

Twenty-Third Volume- High Stakes
I am not sure who organizes the writer for the Jokers series, but I would personally love to see Elio and Linda attempt to add a contribution. They really blew me away with AWOIAF and I would love to see them breathe life into more future literary work. This Jokers series seems like a good platform

Re: Twenty-Third Volume- High Stakes
We have forty writers in the Wild Cards consortium. We are not looking for more. And the contributors to HIGH STAKES were chosen more than a year and a half ago.

Re: Twenty-Third Volume- High Stakes
Thanks George,

The fact that authors were chosen a year and a half ago is astonishing for short stories. Really creates an appreciation for the fact of how daunting the creative process can be.

Some day I want to write a Wild Cards/Jokertown story for you. :)

The art
Love the cover on this one, very moving. I really appreciate the great art accompanying most of the books/novels/comics you've had a hand in. Looking forward to reading this one.

Early Wild Cards
I have been buying the Tor reissues of the early Wild Cards novels and trying to read them in order. Just wondering why it is taking so long to put out each one? It doesn't look like there is anything added, it is a rights/compensation issue?

Do you know the schedule on that and if they will start putting out the reissues more frequently?

Re: Early Wild Cards
It's just the publisher's schedule. Don't want to put out too many books too close together, they cut into each other's sales. No rights issues, no.

I'm sure you get this one from time to time, but does anyone know about audiobooks? I know that Brilliance has the first two, but have there been any other recordings?

No, just those two.

Thank you. As a dyslexic, I keep my eyes open for things like this, but I'll get the others in print.

I agree. I got the ebook and audiobook versions of the 1st two and ended up just listening. The narration was brilliant (think all caps)
