We Got It!

Just got off the phone with Jon Bowman, the booker at the Jean Cocteau Cinema.  Jon just got off the phone with Sony.

THE INTERVIEW will open at the Cocteau on Christmas Day.  Four shows: 2pm, 4:30, 7pm, and 9:30.

We were otherwise going to be closed on Christmas.  We're opening just for this film, and will devote the whole day to it.

We have booked a full run, so THE INTERVIEW will continue to run for two weeks, in rotation with the other films that we had already committed too before this all broke.

We may schedule some midnight shows if there's enough demand.

So come join us, and celebrate Christmas... and free speech... with Seth Rogen.

CHRISTMAS EVE ADDENDUM: All four of our Christmas Day showings are completely sold out.  Tickets for the Friday shows are going fast, and those will probably sell out as well.  We are adding extra shows on Saturday to accomodate the demand.

Apparently the third most powerful writer in Hollywood *does* have some pull. I saw articles (well, pretty much the same article reprinted a lot) about your, um, dissatisfaction, with how Sony and Paramount handled this situation.

Now if you could turn your powers to Paramount, who I think are the bigger cowards for pulling Team America, we'd have something. At least there was a *threat* against Sony.

Is Littlefinger working for Sony now?
What an elaborate(or not so elaborate) master plan to get people so wound up they are chomping at the bit so go see this film. Astonishing to see people cannot see this was all just a PR stunt designed to generate mass hysteria about the film.

What better way to get an American to want to do something by telling them they can't and that freedom their way of life is being threatened?

"Oh it is a christmas miracle that Sony has seen the error of their ways and allowed us to watch this film" - er no, they were always going to release it. Now EVERYONE knows about this film and many will make a point of going to pay to watch it.

Petyr Baelish himself would be proud of such a master stroke. My money is on James Franco behind it.

Re: Is Littlefinger working for Sony now?
A very dubious theory.

Very Nice
I'm glad to see this has happened.

I do believe the film won't be any good. But free speech gives you the good and the bad and no one should be forbidden of watching a movie because someone, somewhere is butt-hurt because they made a satyrical movie of him. I mean, if you really believe a movie was slanderous of you, then you should seek legal action, not bully peopl, then again, the kind of people who would feel butt-hurt is the kind of people who would bully...

A win!
Perhaps you could add an outtakes section after the end of the film with some of your creative conjecturing as to how the assassination might happen?

hurray for free speech?
seriously? this has nothing to do with free speech. This has everything to do with simple extortion. the people and their private information were held hostage by a bunch of criminals. criminals with a cause, sure, but at the end of the day - they're just criminals.

You give the criminals far too much credit when you label this an attack on free speech...

You are a Knight of social justice, Good Ser, defending the industry of entertainment against those who would oppose rights of freedom of expression. And now all four shows have sold out, great news indeed Ser as I've just read they are releasing the film online tonight. Kudos to your amazing staff for wanting to support this cause of freedom of expression on Christmas Day, no less. I continue to be impressed by all that you do for your causes. Perhaps one day we'll get a Wild Cards film out of this, though minus all of the controversy. Mayhaps Seth Rogen could play Dr. Tachyon, would that not be a hoot. I could certainly see James Franco as Jetboy.

They will attack the Cocteau with nuclear warheads!
If there is a nuclear attack on Santa Fe, please at least tell someone (not living in Santa Fe) how Game of Thrones ends...

And if the atomic wave comes from the left, please hide on the right side of a rock.
That's what we learned in the Austrian military. (No joke. An entire comedy program has been written about this.)

Or maybe just stay low...

Hey George, just wanted you to know how great this is. I live in Nebraska so I won't be able to make the show, but I plan on making it to the Cocteau soon. Awesome of you to stand up to ignorance.

I'm waiting for the comments AFTER you have seen it
If not for the political hype, this B movie would have quietly flopped and been forgotten.

Re: I'm waiting for the comments AFTER you have seen it
The movie itself is not the point.

The point is, no foreign power should have the right to tell us what to see.
I fully agree with you - titanic - Dec. 26th, 2014 06:18 pm (UTC) - Expand

Happy Condolences
Happy to have the freedom to skip this one but enough eggnog and Id be there. More than one of us used you as an example of indie cinemas who wanted to show it
