Congrats, Congrats

Congratulations to GILLIAN FLYNN.  Her story "What Do You Do?" from ROGUES has been nominated for an Edgar Award by the members of the Mystery Writers of America.

It's a terrific story, and Gillian is an amazing writer.  Gardner Dozois and I are very proud to have had the honor of publishing it.

Fingers crossed for Gillian to bring home the head of Edgar Allan Poe when the MWA gives them out at the end of April.

For a full list of this year's Edgar nominees, go to http://www.theedgars.com/nominees.html

If you'd like to read "What Do You Do?" -- and a lot of other great stories about con men, scalawags, ne'er do wells, cads, scoundrels, and their disreputable brothers and sisters -- ROGUES is available from your local bookstore or favorite online bookseller.  And you can snag a signed copy (signed by me, not Gillian, alas) from the Jean Cocteau Cinema at http://www.jeancocteaubooks.com/

Congratulations also to the amazing and talented SOPHIE TURNER, our very own Sansa Stark, who has just landed the plum role of Jean Grey in the next X-MEN movie.

Yes, THAT Jean Grey.  Marvel Girl.  Phoenix.  Dark Phoenix.  One of the most iconic.. and most powerful... characters in the Marvel universe.

I first met Jean Grey in the first issue of the X-MEN, when Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced them back in the 1960s.  I first met Sophie when when we were shooting the pilot of GAME OF THRONES.  This is a casting made in comic book heaven.  It brings out the old fanboy in me, the kid who used to write letters that began "Dear Stan and Jack."

 Sophie will be terrific.

'Nuff said.

Since he is known for his affiliation to the Santa Fe Institute I wondered if you two ever interact at all?

Sophie Turner broke out in a show where everybody dies, Jean Grey seems to die once every few years, fits nicely imo.

Awesome to hear that Gillian's story is nominated for an award. She's an amazing writer and has such an awesome voice in the mystery field.

Gillian Flynn is indeed amazing, Gone Girl is a favorite of mine. Her character Amy Dunne in Gone Girl reminds me of Cersei Lannister quite a lot.

Amy Dunne has the scheming tendencies of Cersei, but also has the brilliance of Tyrion.

Two great things in one
Big congratulations to both... and of course to you, sir, for producing opportunities where people can succeed with you.

I'm curious to see how well she pulls off an American accent.

Unless they rewrite Jean Grey as being from England.

I'm sure she would have had to satisfy the producers of her ability to manage an American accent before her casting was announced, as many British actors have done in the past, whatever Tina Fey and Amy Poehler might think of their delivery.

Incidentally, Sophie is from Northampton, the home of Alan Moore. Thankfully she neither sounds like, nor - gods be praised - remotely resembles him.

I'm so very excited she was cast in the role. When I first heard rumors of it as a possibility, I didn't want to get my hopes up. Because of how Jean Grey had been portrayed in the movies, I have never been a fan of her.

Since I am a fan of Sophie, I have high expectations for Age of Apocalypse.

I'm so excited for Sophie! She's such a talented actress. I love her as Sansa and she will surely be an amazing Jean Grey.

That was the first time I'd read anything by Gillian Flynn. Her story was a total mind-fuck. And that is one of the highest compliments I can give. She's drawing me out of my fantasy-genre comfort zone. (Don't worry, though, I have enough love for all the books.)

Great news for Ms. Turner! But I'll reserve my amazement until they cast you as Thanos.

Sophie Turner as Jean Grey is awesome news, indeed!!:D Jean Grey and the Dark Phoenix Saga is what started me reading X-Men when I was in my teens-the story had just got published here, a few years late, but we had no idea back then!;) One of my favorite characters and Sophie will be AMAZING!!!
