Dunk & Egg Ride Again

Circle October 6 on your calendar.

My friends at Bantam have just informed me that will be the day that A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS in released in English, collecting all three of my "Dunk & Egg" novellas -- "The Hedge Knight," "The Sworn Sword," and "The Mystery Knight" -- between one set of covers for the first time.

AKo7K comps 18 high

Many of you, of course, will have read the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg in their original appearances in LEGENDS, LEGENDS II, and WARRIORS. But A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS will have a lot more than the three stories. We wanted this to be an illustrated book, so we went to the amazing Gary Gianni and asked him to do some art for us, thinking perhaps we could include seven or eight interior illustrations. Gary turned us down. He loved the stories, he said, but he'd only do it if he could illustrate the entire book, with art on virtually every page.

We said yes, of course, and Gary has been drawing for the better part of two years. Most fantasy fans know Gianni's artwork from his work on PRINCE VALIANT, on the Wandering Star limited editions of SOLOMON KANE and BRAN MAK MORN, and of course for his stunning 2014 ICE & FIRE calendar, but we think A KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS may be his best work to date.

This is going to be an amazing book, one I will be very happy to have my name on -- beside that of Gary Gianni, surely among the very best fantasy artists of all time. (And damn it, folks, it is LONG past time that he was nominated for a Hugo).

Appropos of Dunk and Egg, I look forward to some of the stories hinted at in "The World of Ice and Fire". Especially the last one in the series.

I also look forward to this one.

This is wonderful news. I have just started reading A Dance With Dragons, so once I'm finished with that and A World of Ice and Fire, this'll make another great addition into the heart of this newly born Ice and Fire fan.

Impressive Cover!
Diggin' the cover-art on this one, George!!

It may be too early (and as such, you may not be able to answer), but will the book feature Appendices like the 'main' books of the Ice and Fire series??

I will most likely place a pre-order this week coming sometime, even though it's coming a long ways off! [I would for Winds as well, if I could]

Already pre-ordered from Amazon! Not only have I not had the pleasure of reading these stories before (despite my love of ASoIaF), I also can't resist any illustrations related to the wonderful universe you've created, George. I already love browsing art of your characters that pull more from the books than the TV show (not to say that the TV casting and acting aren't superb, just that age and many other factors prevent all the actors from looking like their book counterparts, to varying degrees). It really makes re-reading the books all that more fun and vivid. So I can't wait to discover these new characters with the help of what I'm sure will be some superb illustrations!

I'm now glad I haven't gotten around to reading the Dunk n' Egg stories because NOW I'll get all 3 WITH illustrations! (I'm a very fast reader so I tend to avoid short stories because it feels like eating only one potato chip)
