Gone to Texas

I am off to the Lone Star State tomorrow for a whirlwind visit... no, not to Dallas, or Fort Worth, or Austin, or Houston, or San Antonio.

I am going to College Station for a very special presentation at the library.

And thence to Nacogdoches for the Nacogdoches Film Festival.

I will be doing a signing at the Hastings in Nacogdoches, for those who want your books defaced. Well, a book, anyway... only one to a customer. We will also be screening a couple of my episodes of GAME OF THRONES ("Blackwater" and "The Lion and the Rose"), and I'll be doing some stuff with my friends Howard Waldrop, Michael Cassutt, and Joe R. Lansdale.

So come see me, y'all. (I won't be there long).

Have a nice trip, Mr Martin!
Do you think it is going to be filmed? I would love to watch latter.
Do you consider coming to Brazil? I know its far, but we would love to have you here :) Have u had the chance to see yours books covers from Brazil? They are AMAZING!
One last thing, I know that you always say that the books and the series are two different things but I read last week that actors from Game of Thrones series said that season 7 will have new things that are not in the 5 books. Should we expect spoilers from the series?
Thank you for all your hard work

A "very special" presentation?
The event at College Station is apparently to celebrate Texas A&M University Libraries' 5 millionth volume.

Really hope the 5 millionth volume can be filed under Dewey decimal 813/.54 under W!

I understand the need for a smaller locale than DFW, but getting to drive 3 hours for the privilege of an autograph is well worth it.

We're going too. Do you already have tickets to view the episodes? We have extra ones.

Hope you have fun during all the hoo-rah with the presentation of the 5 millionth volume by the other R.R.! Probably will be less hectic than the Deeper than Swords events.

Would've loved to have been there, but the dissertation awaits . . .

Have fun :)
Have fun George and yea that's a great choice of episodes. The best ones were the ones written by none other than yourself. You're a god damn genius man. Enjoy your vacation to the fullest!

Good time to head further south. Tomorrow's high is just 31 and the next day's is 29. On another note, your post from yesterday said you'd talk about some creepy doll contest on today's post. . .

In the Dan Jenkins book Life Its Ownself, one of the characters swears by exclaiming "Waxahachie Nacogdoches!"

Have a great time and stay warm!

are you driving?
Highway 10 has some .. interesting ... things. One time I ran across a gas station that had 3 tigers in the back.

Hey George
I was at the SFA event tonight - it was a great time! I do, however, have a question pertaining to something you touched on during the Q&As, that is, the parallels between characters, events, etc. in ASOIAF and various historical influences. Does writing the series require much in the way of dedicated historical research, or do you draw on personal knowledge acquired pursuant to a personal interest in history?

Anyway, thanks for the great evening, and safe travels home.

Preacher in Westeros!
Great that you read Preacher. Do you have a favorite storyline from this comic?

Speaking of quotes...
I could have sworn that your line 'I should wear the armor, and you the gown.' is from a play from the Spanish Golden age. I forgot which one and it drives me crazy. There is something a bit similar in Fuente Ovejuna by Lope de Vega but not exactly the same.

Is there a cool story behind this line? A Spanish love affair at a comic-con in Spain? Or how did you discover this line or Spanish plays in general?

Will you be in the New Jersey area any time in the future signing stuff? Gotta represent the NJ! I hope you didn't eat too much BBQ.
