Now that the show has overtaken the books, we don't know what to expect. This could be a spoiler, but given the liberties the show has taken with the actual story - Jaime in Dorne... - who knows? Either way, I'm passing on this show until the books are done. I want to experience the story as it was meant to be told, not have it half-spoiled and half-ruined. I'm not bitter or anything; it's just that GRRM's ASoIaF means more to me than HBO's GoT.

Season 5
Hey, I know you took a break from working on this season to work on other stuff, but I was wondering if they ever called you for quotes or your thoughts on how things should go? Or were you left out of the production completely? Just curious ;)

My heart is filled with GRRM love right now!

I didn't see Brienne at The Wall did I? Please tell me I didn't.

Re: Brienne
I don't know if this is true but I read in one of the articles that it is Brienne and Pod in the Riverlands. That snow/winter has begun to fall upon the lands further south of the North. I thought it was Brienne at The Wall too when I first saw the trailer. I hope this helps.

Looks great, but no Jorah at all in this trailer.

Sad. :(

And who did you think the gladiator at 0:32 was? And who's there in the arena at 1:17? Also, don't blink with your eyers at 1:26! ;)

UK Simulcast
Hi George,

I just wanted to leave a message regarding Sky Atlantic in the UK being notably absent from the long list of countries participating in the epic simulcast that's taking place for season 5.
While I'm under no illusion there are bigger fish to fry in the world, it just seems a shame that the UK is missing out on all the fun.
Fans have put together a petition to counter Sky's baffling decision to exclude us from the event, which has just crossed 100 signatures at the time of writing this. I'd post the link but I think I might be marked as spam.
At the end of the day I guess it's Sky's call to make. I have no idea if you'll even see this, but I just wanted to bring this to your attention if there was even the slightest chance you would.
Regardless, I'm eagerly anticipating the new season and the books to come.

I like the wheel metaphor
Nice to see Drogon growing larger.

I'm watching season 4 now and Martin's Purple Wedding episode is my favorite of any in the HBO series so far. After his episode the writing takes a nosedive. I sure hope HBO found some better writers for season 5 - especially since Martin is busy with TWOW...

I have seen a couple of articles that mentions this trailer, where they claim that Daenerys' dragons are finally fully grown. I hope they are wrong and that they get bigger than this.

The Wheel
Awesome sauce!! Just loved this trailer! I'm very excited for the new season. I may be a newbie fan of yours but I am completely hooked. I LOVE catching the hidden clues you leave in your books. I have only allowed myself to read the first three books and "The World of Ice and Fire" because I did not want to get ahead of the show. After this season I am looking forward to reading book four and five to help pass the time until the 6th season of GOT. I became a fan of your books after watching the first season of GOT. The mystery of who Jon Snow's mother and the fact that the producers were able to figure it out from the first three books is what made me begin reading them. There is just so much more in the books than the show, it's amazing! I love being able to figure out where the books are going. Some of the things I have picked up on are not even being mentioned by any other sites that I have seen. I do not go on many so they very well could be out there but I like to figure things out on my own. Thank you for all your amazing hard work that is my leisure. I too am among all the folks who are excited for book 6, even though I am not even done with the others! I have a feeling I will be dreading book 7. Hoping you will not stop at 7 because once it's done....then what??? Totally sucks to think of it. :/

Just wondering, once you are finished with book 6, will you be the one to announce it or will you let your publishers announce it? So excited for you and all the fans! Just the thought makes me happy! Thank you again!

Re: The Wheel
I still hope to finish A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE in seven volumes.

A good story needs a beginning, a middle, and an end.

That does not mean I am done with the world, however. Westeros is large, and the world beyond it larger still, and teeming with tales to tell. At the very least, I have more Dunk & Egg stories to write.

GoT season 6
I'm super excited for this upcoming season! Do you think you'll have time to write an episode for season 6? I've really enjoyed your episodes in the past!

George, just out of curiosity: have you ever been approached by anyone about an animated adaption of ASOIAF? Like a cartoon, anime, etc?
Mar. 13th, 2015 03:12 am (UTC)
Yes. Often.

In fact, one of the proposed feature deals I turned down before HBO was from a major animator. Odd thing is, I might have accepted that offer... I was on the fence... until an exec I was supposed to meet failed to turn up for a lunch we had scheduled to discuss their approach. I did get an apology, later... but being stood up pushed me off the fence back into "No" land.

And boy, am I glad of that. Maybe things do happen for a reason.

Mr. Martin,

I'm curious about a few things.

First, all the existing POV's returning for Winds of Winter. By my count, that's 19/20 (I believe a certain someone is still alive, but could be wrong.)You've said that not all of them will make it through Winds. Can you give any hint as to how many are destined for the chopping block (no names, I don't care about that)?

Second, is it possible Winds could pass A Storm of Swords in total chapter count? ASOS's 82 was pretty hefty. Could Winds go higher or will it fall closer to A Game of Thrones & A Dance With Dragons' 73?
Mar. 13th, 2015 05:55 pm (UTC)
We shall see.
