Sorry, Saratoga

I don't often attend the World Fantasy Convention (not to be confused with the World Science Fiction Convention, which I have only missed once thirty years), but I was there the last time it was held in Saratoga, and I had a great time. A terrific town, a wonderful con.

This year the convention is returning to Saratoga once again, and I was hoping to return as well. I'm not a guest of honor, and I'm not (so far as I know) getting an award; I just wanted to go.

Reluctantly, however, I've just had to scratch Saratoga off my list of 2015 appearances. For no reason having to do with the con itself. I am sure it will be terrific. It's just a matter of time.

I have too much to do. Too many things on my plate. Son of Kong foremost amongst them.

My apologies to anyone who saw Saratoga on my Appearances page and planned to go in order to see me. I won't be there. Go anyway. You'll have a great time.

Also, I have decided against attending this year's San Diego Comicon. Same reason. But since Comicon was never listed on my Appearances page, scratching it is not as big a deal.

(Should I complete and deliver WINDS OF WINTER before these cons roll round, I reserve the right to change my mind).

Looking forward for Twow!!! Thanks for that post! But don't start to stress yourself! We don't want you to be sad!

I have to ask you something about another topic: What's your opinion on making a movie about robert's rebellion? Wouldn't it be great? Maybe after the GoT series?

a question thats been on my mind for quite a while
Dear George,
you often said in interviews that you started working on ASOIAF in 91 when you wrote the first chapter of AGOT though you didnt know what you had back then. You also said many times that you "knew you were doomed when you draw the map".
Can you give us a little insight on what happened between those two events? When did the Lannisters come into play, when Daenerys? Whats going on in a mind like yours after finishing that first chapter?
Being able to create this enormous world fascinates many people including me so I would really like to know some of the steps that took place between finishing that first chapter and drawing the map.
For example did you at some point just go like "you know what? actually i think i need another story line" and then create Stannis? Or was it all there from the start? (stannis is just one of many examples here, you dont have to go into detail on him)
I really admire your creativity so I'd love to have a little tiny insight :)
have a good day!

Power on through, oh weaver of Westeros. When you're feeling discouraged, just remember you've got millions of people out there rooting for you and ready to devour what you're writing like Wyman Manderley on a Frey pie.

Covers of "A Song of Ice and Fire"
Hi George,
I have been wondering for a couple of years if the color of the cover of "A Song of Ice and Fire" have a particular meaning.
Have a good job :)

Just finished Dances with Dragons... no pressure. But really, as much as I want to read the next book (because of how the last book ended and other reasons) I really don't want it to interfere with your enjoyment of life, as someone else said.

I remember hearing you might have guest starred on GoT, which I don't know is true or not, but didn't because of this same reason. All work and no play and all that...

Don't be too sad!
George,

Picture this: at the World Fantasy Convention 2016, you could be reading a sample chapter from A DREAM OF SPRING! In fact, I'd bet dollars to donuts that you or your editors will decide that at least one or two presently completed WINDS OF WINTER chapters better fit as material for A DREAM OF SPRING.

Of course, you can always save any con readings for BALTICON 50 (where I'll plan to be!)

wow!
I think I just prematurely ejaculated in my pants....

When winds of winter comes out my wife will most likely despise you. I will be stuck in the book til completion... Then possibly a re-read right after. Poor thing will be neglected entirely for a few weeks.

I'm a union boilermaker and work seasonally. If the book drops when work is heavy, I'll have to take off.

BTW, love the boilermaker reference in feverdream. Also the area. I live in ky, actually in paducaha right now on a job at TVA power plant. Paducaha is also mentioned and because of this I'm reading the book again after work each day. Its great reading work from you that is mentioning familiar things and places in my life.

Too long already for such a busy man so I'll shush.

Got a towl?

drinks at the cons
I'm also sad that I never got the chance to meet you back when you would very openly mention that the best way to meet you would be going to a convention and going out for drinks afterwards... But seeing things like the Indonesian translation of Game of Thrones makes up for it, knowing so many people have gotten to read this series.

Sneaky or oblivious
Dear wonderful George,

Thanks for that last comment.! If nothing else, it will keep me occupied the rest of the day deciding whether you're incredibly sneaky or wonderfully oblivious to the GOT media hype. I cannot believe the latter, but dare not believe the former.

As always, my visit to Not A Blog made my day. Thanks!

Love from Denmark.

FREY FIGHT.
George,
I was hoping you could clear up something for me. Who would win in a fight? Sir Hosteen Frey or Black Walder?

Showing face in the Garden State?
Hey George. This may come off as terrible timing, due to this post being about having to forgo pleasures due to work and time restraints, but I'm a massive fan from Jersey and was hoping you'd make it out here in the future for a book signing.

Idea
Maybe you can write Winds of Winter at the Cons. You set up a DOS computer in a plastic sphere or bubble, and everybody can watch you work and comment on how fast you type. You even can have a meter set up above you that displays your progress! It will be just like Rocky III. Sounds like the perfect environment to finish your work.

Considering that the media machine is already grinding up with speculation that you intend to release TWOW this year, how much do you regret including that last sentence?
