Home Again

Got back last night from Seattle.

Norwescon was a lot of fun. I got to hang with some old friends and made some new ones, and drank far too many White Russians. (The Dude abides). My hosts treated me very well.

I read the new 'Alayne' chapter, the one I just uploaded, and got a great response. I'm very pleased that so many of you liked it. (I've gotten some nice emails about it too. Sorry that I cannot reply, but there are just too many).

The con also featured a Burlesque show with a GAME OF THRONES theme. That was fun too.

The Philip K. Dick awards were given out. I haven't actually read any of the finalists, but a couple of the winners were present, and I was pleased to meet them.

This year's Hugo ballot was also announced, simultaneously with similar announcements at Minicon and the British Eastercon. I am going to have more to say about that soon. A lot more. But not in this post. I don't want to spoil the mood here.

Fandom Is (indeed) a Way of Life, and attending a con like Norwescon always feels like coming home.

Oh, and once more, for all the Seahawks fans I met this weekend... THEY SHOULD HAVE GIVEN THE BALL TO BEAST MODE. Worst. Call. Ever.

ASOIAF question
Ia divorcing common in Westeros?

Re: ASOIAF question
Pretty much unheard of. But marriages can be annuled or set aside for a variety of reasons.

That Call
Even my Lions would have known to run the ball in the same situation. Especially with a back like Lynch! Hell, they'd probably give Stafford a shot at the QB sneak before trying an inside slant.

Re: That Call
You've undoubtedly heard the joke (I hope you don't find it inappropriate):

Why was Pete Carroll asked leave Seattle and become a highly paid consultant to the Vatican?

Because he is the only person in the world who could get 100 million people to stand up at one time and scream "Jesus Christ" at their television sets.

underlined parts
Thank you for the new chapter! but why some parts of the text are underlined?

Re: underlined parts
Ah, you sweet summer child... underlining is how one indicates italics in a manuscript. In the book, those passages will be italicized.

Just watched the lunar eclipse over the weekend and it got me thinking about whether we'd ever see one in the ASOIAF universe?

I still think that releasing Hodor sample chapter would be more fitting considering the date...

Welcome back
Hi George,

I have to say, this is by far my favourite chapter you've released. For years I've been looking forward to the initial conversations between Alayne and Harry :)

I have a distinct feeling that there is going to be a real shift in her situation at the Vale ;)

ASOIAF question
Mr Martin, is the Song of Ice and Fire an actual song that exists in Westeros? If so, will we ever hear it? This is being discussed on the forums.

Thanks in advance! :)

(Also, sorry if you got this comment several times. This is my first time using LJ and I had trouble doing it right)

Dear Mr. Martin, your books have helped me through very very stressful and hard situations in my life. Especially relation between Sandor Clegane and Sansa Stark. I ship them so hard! I hope they will meet again. I don't know why but I think it says that there is a hope even for ugly and poor souls. That even they can find somebody who will take care of them.

This "Alayne" chapter gives me a lot of hope about this (yeah, I know it sounds weird, but there is one theory... ;))

Anyway, have a good day:)

Too soon George, too soon. It still stings.

The Entertainment Weekly article says that it's important to you that you release WINDS before Season 6, but did you *actually* say that you expect an early 2016 release is that just for headlines?

I was in Seattle almost three years ago for my cousins wedding (hehe). Did you get a chance to go to the Seattle Pike Place Market while there? Great attraction! Seattle is an amazing city really want to go back.

Re: Seattle
Not this trip, but I have been to Pike Place many times before.

Lemon cakes
In which part of Westeros do you enjoy inventing food dishes the most? Or what part of Westeros could you see yourself enjoying the food the best? I'd probably settle with Dorne or Braavos (technically Essos) for myself

Your presence at Norwescon kept me and my stuff very busy on Thursday with a pre-reg line out the door into the parking lot.

Thank you! I like being that busy
