At the Cocteau

We have a couple of interesting, offbeat movies at the Jean Cocteau Cinema this week.

SPRING is a romantic horror movie that's won all sorts of acclaim on the festival circuit.

And then there's KUMIKO THE TREASURE HUNTER, which is... kind of hard to characterize.

Check them out. I intend to.

See you at the movies.

I've heard nothing but great things about Kumiko The Treasure Hunter! I'm a big big fan of Nathan Zellner, one half of the Zellner brothers who wrote, directed, and produced it. I definitely need to watch it soon.

A Girl Walks Out at Night is a recent Iranian film that looks awesome.

I saw Spring, it's pretty good. A well crafted horror love story.

Been trying to get to Kumiko up here in Portland for two weeks! Curious to hear what you think of it.

I'm sorry this is off topic. I work for SLP's and Audiologist and there is a continuing debate about Hodor. Does he have Aphasia and if so is be based on someone you know in real life who suffers from Aphasia?

Sorry, but the answers to questions like that will be found in the text... eventually.

Ah! Thank you. Looking forward to it.

Speaking of Aphasia reminds me... My uncle is one of the most important modern writers in Latin America, his name is Sergio Pitol (2005 winner of the Miguel de Cervantes Prize, the third Mexican in history to win that award). He currently suffers from Aphasia, which is probably the worst thing a writer could ever get.

One of his books, "The Art of Flight" has finally been translated into English (they previously only existed in Spanish, Italian, French, etc, but for some reason not in English).

I would love to send you a copy, a small gift in return for all the many many many hours of entertainment your books have given me. Is there a way to do this?

ScriptShadow review of your screenplay Fevre Dream!
GRRM: Your script Fevre Dream just got a review on Scriptshadow.

Good luck with finding a director!

I for one would love to see you take a foray into feature films!

We awarded Kumiko our Golden Rock Narrative Award at the Little Rock Film Festival last year. It is a wonderful film and I hope lots of people get a chance to see it. Some of the most splendid cinematography and music with a powerhouse singular lead performance.

Kumiko The Treasure Hunter looks really interesting. The fact that it also stars Rinko Kikuchi is a great bonus. She's an amazing actress.

I'll have to see if I can find a theater here in the northeast where I can see it. I'd prefer to see it at the Cocteau but sadly a commute of a few thousand miles isn't exactly feasible. But it is 2015 after all. The year of flying cars! So who knows? ;)

All the Wild Cards books under Tor have had absolutely stellar covers. I'd frame them and hang them on my wall if I could.

Are all these examples digital artwork? It doesn't look like traditional oil on canvas. I miss the fantasy/sci-fi covers of the '70s and '80s. Even the paperbacks had amazing covers.

Whatever anyone can get their hands on is, I suspect, the right answer.

At the last party, it was an open bar with pretty much everything you can imagine on offer. There were some special drinks as…

Any chance you could tell us who’s doing the cover art for Fire and Blood? And maybe when we can expect a glimpse of it. Thank you!
