Mad Max in Santa Fe!

Mad Max is coming to Santa Fe this weekend.

The long awaited fourth movie, MAD MAX:FURY ROAD, opens this weekend in hundreds of theatres acrpss the nation. One of them is our own Jean Cocteau Cinema.

Most places will open the film on Friday, but we're getting a jump of them with two Thursday night sneaks, one at 7:30 and one at 10:00 pm. As an extra added attraction, we will have Max's car, the last of the V8 Interceptors, on hand outside the Cocteau THURSDAY and FRIDAY only.

Max himself may also be on hand, along with his old buddy the Gyro Captain (who isn't in the new movie, I realize, but what the hell, he's my favorite character).

You can buy advance tickets on line at the Cocteau website: http://www.jeancocteaucinema.com/buy-tickets/

And with every advance ticket, you get a FREE POPCORN!

We have the best popcorn in town, by the way. Organic, popped in sunflower oil, real melted butter, and a cool assortment of free toppings, salty, savory, spicy, and sweet.

So come see Max at the Jean Cocteau. I'll see you there.

Mad Maximum
So I am super pumped to see this movie! However, I need to convince my wife to see it with me and I really don't want 1000 questions about what is going on. Do I need to have her watch all three of the first ones, or could I skip any of them?

Re: Mad Maximum
I haven't seen FURY ROAD myself yet, so I can't answer that.

Excited! This movie is getting ridiculously good reviews. Can't wait until tomorrow night.

Thanks for pointing me on to this. Had not seen the originals and this current one really wasn't on my radar until I saw the excellent trailer. The reviews have been unbelievable and didn't even realize it's rated R! Going to check it out on Sunday before GoT.

Tom Hardy vs. Mel Gibson?
I never thought Mel was that great of an actor, but he played Max pretty convincingly. I'm infinitely more impressed with Tom Hardy's acting credentials thus far. I really hope he can pull it off!

Stoked for the film, I will be at the theater Friday morning. I would love to be in Santa Fe checking this out at the Jean Cocteau, but alas, I will have to settle for something closer :).

LOL 85 reviews counted on rottentomatoes, Max is at 99%. 99!!!!!!!!

George, how do you have time to stay so up-to-date in the fantasy scene?

Re: time
I don't. I'm not.

I receive way more books than I can read.

I have to say, George - my biggest disappointment over the show doing away with Jon Connington is that I thought Mel Gibson would have been perfect in the role. I bet he's a GoT fan, too.

You also won an award from your alma mater, Northwestern, this week. Congratulations on the Medill Hall of Achievement induction, George! http://bit.ly/1J9DCvk

I saw it yesterday night and oh my God, the Insanity of that movie is beyond belief. George Miller still got it

V8 Interceptor
I wonder if that Interceptor is street legal or how difficult it is to ship them over here with proper papers. I was thinking as I was watching Fury Road of how cool it would be to actually drive some of those vehicles on actual streets but then the legal red tape spoiled it for me, ha!

On another note. The movie was good. It is no Road Warrior but what is? Frankly, Hardy is an awesome actor but Gibson as Max is tough to beat. Also there is the gyro copter dude as Mr Martin points out. I was playing the excellent video game Far Cry 4 recently and they ripped the gyro copter off from Road Warrior I'm quite sure. I was happily flying around dreaming of the land of the Road Warrior.

Re: V8 Interceptor
I drive a V8 Interceptor, I found it on Craig's List. You can buy them at auctions in the US, they just remove the logos, sirens and lights to make them street-legal, I'm pretty sure the police remove all that before they auction them, so you can buy and sell them like any other car. In fact, mine came with a gigantic file of everything that's ever been done to the car, down to ever single oil change, because the police keep meticulous records on their cars. They're actually really cheap. I bought mine for 6K USD from a private seller who regularly buys them at auctions and resells them. It's still got the pushbar in the front and the spotlight on the driver's side. Also has bullet proof front doors and stab-proof front seats. And the entire backseat can be removed and hosed off. The backseat doors are childproof, nobody can get out of the backseat without being let out, nor can they roll their own windows down.

Just saw it yesterday
Amazing! You can tell that this stuff was rolling around in George Miller's head for decades, and he finally got the means to execute it. So much fun, and so original. The world he's created is utterly fascinating and bonkers, if totally horrible, morally speaking.
