The Calendar Is Coming

I won't be at this year's San Diego Comicon, alas. Had to miss the fun, but there's too much work to do, and I know that HBO and Random House and Tor have matters well in hand, with lots of great events and promotions.

Which is not to say I won't be represented: the 2016 edition of the Official SONG OF ICE AND FIRE Calendar will be making its debut at San Diego. I was lucky enough to snag an advance copy.

This year the artwork is by the amazing and talented French artist, MAGALI VILLENUEVE, whose past work includes some terrific contributions to Fantasy Flight's games and the WORLD OF ICE AND FIRE concordance. Check out more of her work at http://magali-villeneuve.blogspot.com/ and http://www.magali-villeneuve.com/

The calendars will be available at the Random House/ Bantam/ Del Rey booth at San Diego, so be sure and look them before the supply is gone. Magali has done some gorgeous work here; I expect you will love it as much as I do.

Image of Son of Kong in the calendar
Hi George!
As I recall, the calendar would show an image from The Winds of Winter. Is is true? And it's an image from one of the chapters we already know - from readings or excerts in your web or app - or something completely original?

Thanks in advance for everything!

Re: Image of Son of Kong in the calendar
The official Penguin Random House's page for the calendar has a small sample, you can see the image there. Don't want to say who it is in case people don't want to be spoiled before they get their own copy.

Awesome! I don't suppose they'll be sold in other countries? Looks like some real eye candy. And... wait is that a White Walker's head lying there? O_o

I'm submitting a panel to New York Comic Con (in real life I have an MA in medieval History) - any small chance you will come to NYCC? The TV writers weren't able to come to SDCC either...I wonder if they'll make up for it by coming to my hometown convention.

Unlikely, I am afraid. Right now I am cancelling appearances, not adding them.

Art from TWOW
Hey George! Is it true that the calendar contains artwork depicting a scene from The Winds of Winter?

I'm quite excited to get my copy of the calendar!

Is that Ser Duncan's sigil in the background I see? A lot of other awesomeness in this photo, too, there's tiny-you & an Other (or I guess a White Walker since it's the show's depiction) down there, plus the great dragon egg cookie jar in the background!

Amazing Art
Wow, it looks gorgeous. It's so amazing to me how artists can bring your literary masterpieces to life. I guess that's why they're artists. I'm definitely getting one. Thanks for sharing.

Gorgeous cover!!
Can't wait to check out the interior art. Last year's calendar was amazing.

BTW, I'm re-reading (actually, re-listening to the audio of) ASOIAF, and the depth and complexity of the plot and characters is just mind-blowing. Thank you for this awesome contribution to our culture. I never thought I'd say this of any author, but I do believe you have exceeded Tolkien.

I did not know that Magali was doing the art for this year's calendar. I play the card game and her art always stands out. She has also done my absolute favorite illustration of the Red Viper: http://www.cardgamedb.com/forums/uploads/76239072d19ece95dc6d4a8eaf6680cf.jpg

That's gotta be my favorite rendition of the Others that I've seen (and I look around for that kind of thing a lot). Magali Villenueve works magic - I hope there's a Dornish-themed piece in there.

When it will be available in Egypt ?!. You have a pretty big fanbase in Egypt and by miracle we can find your work in our country not counting song of ice and fire novels which is available everywhere in bookstores.
