Home Alone

Well, not really alone. Parris is here, and my minions, and the Cocteau staff, and the cats... but I am not in San Diego at Comicon, and I have to admit, that feels strange.

Staying home was the right decision. I just got back from Chicago and the Dead shows, and before that it was Europe, and it is hardly as if HBO needed me in San Diego to represent... not with so much of our cast on hand. I have so much work to do, I am way behind on everything, and I have a wedding to attend in Jersey in a few weeks, and worldcon after that... and if truth be told, San Diego has gotten overwhelming in recent years. There are always good times catching up with friends, and hanging with the cast, but it's not as if I can walk the floor anymore and look for old comic books, the way I once did.

Even so... even so... it does make me a little sad, not being there.

Anyway, those of you who are there, be sure and catch THE EXPANSE premiere. I wish I could. Everything I've seen suggests that it will be a terrific show. The books were certainly great. Say hi to Daniel and Ty for me.

You might also visit the Random House booth to buy a calendar, and drop by the Tor/ Macmillan booth to buy a stack of books and show your support.

If it makes you feel any better, it's kind of comforting to know that even you couldn't get into Hall H for the Game of Thrones panel.

If you want to explore the cons by yourself again, just tell people that you are trying your best cosplay as George R.R. Martin.

sorry George
I can't imagine not being able to walk around without the peace of mind of anonymity. Sounds like donning a mask might be just the ticket for you, though! If I ever saw you I'd probably just say "Hey George!" or "Peace!" and leave it at that. But I'm happy that anything gives you more time to finish the books! Since I started watching the show first, I haven't read them yet, and I am hoping to read them all, soon! Take care and...Peace!

Next year will be better anyway.
I can empathize.

George, I feel bad that you didn't feel you could go, but it will make next year all the sweeter. You'll walk in next year triumphant and full of new accomplishment.

It might not be the ideal solution, but you should go one day in disguise a la Henry V. It's the perfect solution for a Con. I'd love to see you (or not see you as the case may be) in full Storm Trooper gear or as a Brony... maybe even an orc from Lord of the Rings... or even one of your own characters!

Have you seen the Tested video where Jamie Hyneman looks for a solution for getting stopped at comicon? He figured that if he took a "yes-man" approach to it but also kept walking, he could satisfy fans and also get to his destination. I don't know how well it could work for browsing comics rather than walking the floor, but if nothing else, it was funny to watch.

Name for a dream of spring
If it seems like it's gonna be downhill writing (for you of course, a 2 page children's book would be the son of Kong for the lot of us) you could name it curious George as you put a pretty bow around the frey's and boltons and squeeze the life out of them.... If it's tougher then a 2 dollar steak like some of the other masterpieces you have written it could be an unholy bastard offspring of balerion the black dread and Kong. You could name this abomination to the gods both old and new "The Mad Kong" (see what I did there?! Pretty clever)

Take your Time :)
This might not be a popular opinion, but take your time with TWOW. I'll live if it is released after season 6. I'd rather eat the meal after the food has finished cooking. Good luck!

I'm not going to San Diego either
I have to work this week. And next week. And every week until I'm useless.

Boy, now I feel melancholy.

Today I got an email from my asshole boss blaming me without justification for delaying filing of some important papers. It strikes me that functionally you have thousands of thousands of asshole bosses and that, while I can know pretty well where my one asshole boss will be (vacation), yours might be anyone you meet anywhere.

I cannot imagine how stressful that must be. And this post implies that you would not be any happier retreating to a meditative compound in the scrubland and leaving those people to fuck themselves. Just sorry, man.

What did you think of Trey filling in for Jerry?
Hi George,

I love that you're a Giants fan, AND a Grateful Dead fan! Oddly enough, " crazy fingers" was one of my favs of the gd50 weekend. Also, I loved those dragon pins you had in chicago! So glad you took the time (even from Winds)! To check out the Treyful dead. I actually have a really cool Jaime Lannister/Limb by Limb (Phish Song) based pin, heres a link to a photo of it. Wanna trade for one of your dragon pins? :-).
