One More Day

Last day at home. Tomorrow Parris and I fly east for the wedding, and some time in NYC with my agents and editors, and the baseball game on Staten Island (Go Direwolves!).

Speaking of the last, I am told tickets are almost sold out, so if you want to come, snag some now. The first 2500 fans at the stadium will get Direwolf hats. The first 400 in line will be able to get an autograph. Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary will be there as well, with one of their "envoy" wolves, and there will be a fund-raising raffle for the player jerseys.

While I love travel, I hate getting ready to travel. The last day at home is always stressful. Too much to do.

I won't be blogging much, or reading email, while on the road, so I expect this space will go silent for a week or so. Don't worry, that doesn't mean the Puppies got me.

Oh, and to be sure, time is running short for that Hugo vote as well. Balloting closes on July 31. Once again, to vote get your PIN and go to:

Remember, he who hesitates is lost.

Oh, before I forget... for those of you still in New Mexico, be sure and swing by the Jean Cocteau Cinema on Monday, August 3 for one of our famous (infamous) author events. Wild Cards stalwart VICTOR MILAN (creator of Cap'n Trips) will be on hand to read and sign copies of DINOSAUR LORDS, the first volume of his new epic fantasy series.

Hey, knights riding dinosaurs, what could be cooler than that?

Come join Vic and the gang, grab your copy of DINOSAUR LORDS... another great TOR book... and make him sign some Wild Cards books as well. We'll have those available at the JCC as well, already signed by me (and in some cases by other writers).

Mickey Mouse
Hey George, do you have any plans to visit Orlando or Florida in the next few years? I'd love a chance to bring my mom (who is also a big fan) to see you at an event.

I hope you have a really good trip, free from as much stress as possible and relaxing. Maybe even get a monkey off your back! ;)

Edit: P.S. Do you know who the artist was for The Dinosaur Lords covers? I really like them (artist myself here).

Chronological Writing
Hi George, I have been wondering for some time now about how you write your novels. I would find it hard to believe you are only working on Son of Kong by itself, only to hit the final ENTER button to complete it, then you would begin the "Once upon a time" of "A Dream of Spring"

So my question is, have you been writing both books in tandem?
Or are you taking your time, focusing on Son and then you will turn full attention to book 7? (granted I know you never put full attention on one thing, because you are busy with traveling, screen plays, other projects, etc) I just meant that with regards to ASOIAF.

Direwolves and Dinosaur Lords
Have a fun time and safe journey. Alas, I'm in the good old Midwest working so I cannot come to the game. Yet I'm rooting for those Direwolves. It is an excellent team name as many other of your creations would be as well. If I were rich enough to own a national franchise I'd be getting your permission to do so.

"The Dinosaur Lords" book sounds like a great read. I'll be checking it out. Again, happy travels.

Safe travels
Enjoy the East Coast George although I heard it gets really hot there this time of year. Makes one long for Winter :)

Totally unrelated
Did you know there's a writer called Simon Toyne? I just came across a book by him in a charity shop, it seemed to be about medieval Turkey. Coincidence?!

Re: Totally unrelated

Unless we are talking about names like Daenerys Targaryen, there is no name a writer can possibly come up with that someone does not have in real life. Usually dozens of someones.

And for that matter, there are now a lot of little girls named Daenerys in the world.

Re: Totally unrelated
Indeed. I actually thought it might have been an intentional "reference" cos they guy writes about history. Yeah, funnily enough I noticed, at the doctor's recently, a baby called Arya; which was definately not a coincidence! :-)

Re: Totally unrelated
We had a new kindergartner at the school I work at named Daenerys last year.

Hey George, I was wondering if The Dinosaur Lords, or other books by notable authors such as Bernard Cornwell (The Warlord Chronicles), have their chapters set out as POV characters like a song of ice and fire. Because personally I like a diversity in point of views, and preferably not in first person (I'm quite fussy lol)

Cornwell uses first person POV in both the Warlord Chronicles and the Uhtred books. Still waiting for the dinos to come in.

Sanderson has the POV per chapter structure in his Stormlight Archive books. Erikson presents all sides in the Malazan series, though the POV changes are not bound to chapters. To name just two epic monsters of series. :-)

Re: meeting with editors

I meet with editors every time I go to New York.

I will also be meeting with football players. That does not mean I am about to start for the Jets.

Re: meeting with editors
The way the Jets are right now, you would probably make the team ;) Could always be a Tackle or Guard, perhaps?

Re: meeting with editors
I'll admit, I got my hopes up at "meeting with editors" too. Enjoy your trip, George!

Re: meeting with editors
Of course! The author is going to be in the same city as his editors and publishers you might think they would want to check in see how things are going. Especially since the author has the most highly anticipated book since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Dino Lords sample chapter
You can read a sample chapter of Dinosaur Lords at Tors site. That top graphic for this book is pretty awesome.

Thanks ☺️
I am so enjoying your books. I have been a fan of the TV show but hearing all the talk of left out characters inspired me to get all your books which I am burning through with a veracity that I haven't had since college. So thank you. Thank you for bringing me back to reading and for the wonderful journey your books have taken me on.

I may even check out the Knights on dragons because let's face it, it's knights on dragons.

I wish you all the best and happiness.
