Back From Bubonicon

I'm back home from Bubonicon, our venerable local con, and the last one on my schedule for this year. No more cons on my schedule until the end of February, when I'll be headed to Virginia.

Bubonicon -- named after our state's rep as "home of the flea, land of the plague" -- is much bigger and livelier than it used to be, but still a very friendly, fun local con, with a strong literary flavor. This year's incarnation featured a great lineup of guests including Cat Valente, Tamora Pierce, and Mary Robinette Kowal. I enjoyed hanging them with, and getting to know them better. Terrific guests, terrific writers, and wonderful people. Warm and witty.

A whole bunch of my Wild Cards writers and friends were also on hand, including the usual New Mexico gang, and out-of-towners like Caroline Spector and Carrie Vaughn.

The highlight of the weekend, as ever, was our evening with Pope Francis.

And so con season draws to a close... but football season is almost at hand!

Aussies watching as well
Hi Mr Martin,
There will be a lot of Australians watching the NFL this year, the reason being our Aussie Rugby League convert Jarryd Hayne looks like making the cut for the 49ers. I would love to hear your thoughts? Then again it may not be that big a story in the states. It will have me watching my first game that's for sure!

Football Season
Have you been following the progress of young Ser Jarryd of Haynesworth, Sothyros?

Love to hear your thoughts on whether you think he will make the 49ers 53 man squad.

Football season..
Good luck to your Jets this year, except for week one. Here in Cleveland high expectations for our Browns are a mistake. By week five our football hearts are on the botton of the lake. I know, I know. :(

Hi George, do you have videos of your appearance on worldcon and/or bubonicon? I tried to find them on youtube but without any luck =/. I just found the reading but on bad quality.
Maybe your minions had something recorded?

George I was wondering if you'd read Cat Valente's 'Deathless'? It was such a beautiful but sad read. Just wondering if you had read it or whether it was on your reading list :)

Eagles
GRRM - just wondering what your thoughts on our Chip Kelly and the Eagles. It's hard not to be impressed at what they are doing right now, even though it's preseason.

Mr. Martin, you've been ponified. :)
My husband sent me this link, not sure if it will make it through the LJ Spam filters

Of course, your cutie mark would probably be more of a generic pencil or something else to do with writing, than focusing on GoT... IMO at least.

Lo que más me duele es que nunca podremos ver un reencuentro entre Theon y Robb por la muerte del último. ¿Por qué nos dejaste con esa duda?

What more hurts me is that we will never be able to see a reunion between Theon and Robb for the death of the last one. Why did you leave us with this doubt?

Jets Record
George,

Any prediction on what the Jets record will be at the end of the season?

I am thinking around 9-7 or 10-6 (just barely making the wild card).

Welcome Back + Hugo Book...?
Hey George, Welcome Back!

Looks like you had a great time over the past little while. I'm saving one 'welcome back' in general, rather than individual comments to save time & space. Hard to believe Sept 1 - means fall (and yes, of course winter) is coming.

I don't mean to veer off the topic path slightly, but it seems that you do have definitely have a lot to say in regards to the Hugos - was wondering if yourself (maybe some other authors as well) would collaborate on a publication of some kind in the future? Don't get me wrong - this is in no way a complaint about the Not A Blog's content, but a suggestion that the topic may warrant its own book; should yourself or fellow authors have more to say.

As always, all the best!
