Eight Is NOT Enough

HBO and GAME OF THRONES dominated last weekend's Creative Arts Emmys in LA.

HBO took home 29, way more than any other network. GOT accounted for eight of those, more than any other show.

Awards were given in every category. For the full list of nominees and winners:

The rest of this year's Emmys will be given out this Sunday. I'll be flying out to LA once more for the ceremony. GAME OF THRONES is nominated for directing, writing, and acting... and of course, for Best Drama. So cross your fingers, cross your toes.

Meanwhile, congratulations to all of our Emmy winners from last week. Well deserved! A hearty round of applause, please... and for the losers too. Not everyone can take home the trophy, but you all did great work.

When I first read the title I thought you finished winds and realized that you would need more than 8 books to finish the series haha. Thank you for all you do George and congrats on the emmys.

'15 is the year
This is great, a recognition that every GoT episode is basically cinematic quality. I wish there were more nominations handed out to the actors this season. Great acting everywhere, every time the show needed it.

What did you think about basically having your own musical number in last year's awards with Weird Al?

Awards, awards
A lot of award posts lately. Are there any awards you've always wanted to win that have, thus far, eluded you?

Mandatory ASoIaF question...

Of the attendees at the Tourney of Harrenhal, are there any survivors at the end of ADwD other than Mace Tyrell, Barristan Selmy, Jaime Lannister, Lord Yohn Royce, Howland Reed, and Lem Lemoncloak?

Re: Awards, awards
Sure. The Emmy, obviously. I am 0 -6 to date.

And one more Hugo. The Big One: Best Novel. I've won for Short Story, for Novelette, and for Novella, and of course GOT has won three times for Dramatic Presentation. But I am 0 for 4 in novel.

Oh, and the Pulitzer, the National Book Award, the Oscar, and the Nobel Peace Prize. Why not dream big?

Thank you
Hi George! Please, if you have the chance give David, Dan and everyone else involved in the production of the show an immense THANK YOU. I I love your books more than anything else, but I am incredibly grateful of living in a time where a product like GoT is possible. I can't imagine the amount of effort that goes in the making of the show, the amount of stress and sleepless nights... So please, if you can, thank them in our behalf. And the best of luck for Sunday.

Jets and Giants
Giants will go 5-11, Jets 9-7. That is all.

On the betting site Bovada, Game of Thrones and Mad Men are neck and neck, though GoT is a slight favorite! Personally, I think Mad Men will win just because it was its last season and it's been an Emmy darling in the past, though I'll be thrilled if GoT wins. There isn't much shame in losing to Mad Men though.

They also have bets on if Sideshow Bob will succeed in murdering Bart in Simpson's Halloween ep. I saw a couple of weeks ago they had odds for the first to die in GoT season 6, and also odds on who will take the iron throne in the end.

Other TV shows
G'day George,

What did you think of season 3 of arrow? Will you be watching the 4th season?

Re: Other TV shows
Haven't see the first three seasons yet.

I did watch, and enjoy, THE FLASH, though my Barry Allen has a blonde crewcut.

Congrats !
Deserved, extremely well done.
I've watched Hardhome at least 16x creepy, heroic, eerie. Costumes, sets/CG, acting - all exemplary.
Love Westeros, thank you !
And Dead references ?! A+

Favorite episode?
I was wondering whether you have a favorite episode from the series.

My all-time favorite is The Bear and the Maiden Fair (Season 3 Episode 7) -- although I haven't really been disappointed in any episodes.

Brilliant, well deserved! So happy to see so many of my favourite shows among the winners

My over-all comment is that I really appreciate the quality of the 'original' programming that really began with HBO - back in the 90's was it? Network tv had gotten so cheap and cheesy with all it's overdone sitcoms, bland detective/hospital dramas and severe over-dependence on 'reality' tv (such a misnomer).

GoT was well-deserving in all it's wins. I'm happy to see Black Sails get some nominations. Besides GoT it's currently the only program that gets me excited for new episodes.

Have fun in LA. Stay away from the wild fires.

Here's a question: Are there marked differences (ie the people, the politics, the venues, the swag but mostly the over-all atmosphere) between events like Cons versus events like the Emmys?

Re: Congrats
Yes, of course, there are gigantic differences.

Give GOT Awards!!!!!
I've read a lot of different numbers, safe to say top 5 TV show at present. Yet, not that many awards, in my opinion. So, here's hoping this is the break through year. Fingers and toes both crossed, can't keep my eyes crossed long, but I'm praying hard. The trip will be fun no matter what, but hey, hope is it spectacular and laden with awards!!!

While the TV show is great, and what first introduced me to the series, make no mistake the book series trumps the show beyond measure and I trust your composition style and methods for the story to be completed to the fullest.

While I envy your genius, I don't envy the preassure people are trying to put on you.

Enjoy the journey!

Thanks GRRM

Speaking of awards...
Excellent! Congrats to you and to HBO on the well-earned awards!

While we're on the subject of awards, I wanted to mention... I just recently read your post on all the different SF awards (and others), and I kind of gawked when I got to the image you posted for the Saturn award. I wasn't sure if you'd posted it as a joke or not.

The Saturn is labeled as being awarded to L Ron Hubbard for "Battlefield Earth", which I thought was odd, since the movie was... well, let's say it was not well received and I didn't think it would win any awards (other than perhaps a Razzie). And it would be even more odd if they awarded him a Saturn for the book, since it's a visual media award.

I did a little quick research, googling "Saturn Award Battlefield Earth", and the only real hits I get are at battlefieldearth.com and lronhubbard.org. I went to the Saturn Awards webpage and searched but found no evidence that Battlefield Earth had ever won a Saturn. (I found references on wikipedia, but the listed source was the lronhubbard.org site.)

I also noticed references in the same places to Hubbard winning "Italy's Tetradramma D'Oro Award", an award which I can find no mention of anywhere else...

I've also not been able to find specifically what year and which category Battlefield Earth won.

I guess I'm asking if you (or anyone else here) knows whether that image ( http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/grrm/7059164/272673/272673_900.jpg ) is for real, or whether it's something that was made up to aggrandize Mr. Hubbard for a certain organization...
