Oh, Well

Life is meaningless and full of pain.

The Jets have never beaten the Philadelphia Eagles. Never.

A record they kept intact today.

That 2-0 record was exciting, and I still think Gang Green will have a good season, maybe even make the playoffs. But this morning was a tough one. Especially the way it ended, on a stupid penalty just when the Jets were about the get the ball back. It still would have been very unlikely that they could have tied the score, but I would at least liked to have seen them get to try the Hail Mary.

The penalty that ended things wasn't even the worst play of the game. That distinction goes to the "lateral" that Brandon Marshall tried after catching a first down pass.

Too many turnovers. I will give to the Jets for the way they fought back in the second half. For a little while I thought they might pull off a miracle comeback. The first half, though... the D played tough throughout, but the O was horrible for the whole first half. Three and out, three and out, three and out, three and out. The running game was going nowhere, and while Fitz was completing a lot of passes, they were all to receivers behind the line of scrimmage, who would then immediately be tackled for no game. VERY conservative play-calling. In the second half, the Jets finally began to throw down the field, which led to some INTs but also a TD and some first downs. I know the deep ball is not Fitz's strong point, but even so, throwing for a loss gets you nowhere.

Next up for the Jets: the Dolphins, in London. That one should tell us whether Gang Green is for real or not.

Todd Bowles
I'm a Cards fan so I'm rooting for the Jets to do great things this season. I loved Bowles and was sad to see him go! Here's hoping you guys return to form next week!

Yes Eagles won the game, but our offense can use some work. Especially our receivers catching passes that they are supposed to. So our defense does not have to stay on the field the majority of the game and get tired out towards the end.

as a Bills fan i saw Fitz play under Gailey for a while and it was mostly the same. always short throws, screens, quick slants, receivers bunched up then running crossing routes. lots of smoke and mirrors close to the line of scrimmage and lots of low scoring games. Fitz might actually throw the worst deep ball in the nfl so i could forgive not attempting those. what bugged me about Gailey/Fitz was refusal to even attempt many intermediate throws

Huge Eagles fan here. The Jets played a good game, that defense is scary and they will bounce back just fine. They caught an Eagles team who was 0-2 and pretty much needed to win to save their season.

Shouldn't you be used to the Jets being horrible by now?

Speaking as someone from the greater region of that city, you have to give us something to hold our heads up high upon considering the reputation of the Eagles as a whole has people making jokes this weekend about how the Pope says he'll pray for the Eagles, but he doesn't think it'll do much good.

Well my Cowboys lost so you can probably be happy about that while I cry myself to sleep tonight

Looks like Fitz was going the check down options. Not sure if it's because his receivers couldn't get separating or he didn't trust his own arm. Probably the latter. Jets should roll the Fins though - even if it is across the Atlantic

Dallas or New England
As a Jets and Giants fan, who do you dislike more, Dallas or New England?

Re: Dallas or New England
Flip a coin.

I've hated the Cowboys much longer, but I hate the Patriots more intensely.

Re: Dallas or New England
Does this mean we will be seeing Ser Brady or Ser Belichick getting ripped apart in Westeros soon?

Dolphins are terrible
Beating the inept Dolphins in the Jet Lag Bowl won't prove a thing. Week 7 in Foxboro on the other hand...

Hey, while its sad to see the Eagles win, at least the Giants got into the win column and Dallas couldn't handle Julio and lost that one!

Sorry not sorry, George
But GO BIRDS! That was a win sorely needed!

Any excitement for the Mets?
I know you're a football guy at heart, but feel like I've seen photos of you in Mets gear somewhere.

It's clear to me that Fitz has only one pitch: fastball from 1-15 yards. Any time he's had to put some touch on the ball or give it the least bit of arc, he misses badly. In addition, the way the Eagles clogged his passing lanes and knocked his fastballs down will be the model for every defense he faces going forward. He also made a lot of bad decisions, throwing to the check down guy, not the open guy farther downfield, or throwing into double coverage long, but he didn't do this the first game so maybe he was just off.

What makes things worse is how many drops the Jets had. At least six. And no running game, at least not without Ivory. Ugh. I'm not as optimistic as you, George. Even with all the turnovers the first two games, they weren't dominating otherwise. There should be a stat called Turnover Adjusted Score so you can see how teams matched up minus the small miracle of a turnover.

As for the Dolphins, the Jets never do well on the West Coast. I wonder going east will have the same effect.
