Mets take two from the Cubs to open the National League championship series!

((I want to marry Daniel Murphy and have his children. Also, as an old comic book fanboy, I love how the Mets roster is full of superheros. Thor. The Dark Knight. Captain America. And we had Cal Ripken, the Iron Man, broadcasting the game. All we need is a Hulk... ))

Jets thump the Potomac Drainage Basin Indigenous Peoples!!

A great weekend for this old New York sports fan.

Now if the Giants can only make it a triple tonight over the Iggles of Brotherly Love, life will truly be magical and full of joy.

I would say "bouncy" is the perfect way to read this post, haha. Just brings a smile to my face reading it! Cheers!

I think the Eagles get their act together tonight.

(I don't know why I do this to myself. It's like rooting for the Starks.)

I'm a long time Chiefs fan. I know exactly how you feel.

Oh, how I long for the day Los Angeles also has two teams again. As a Michigan transplant, I only have my lowly Lions to cheer for each week.

Talk about life being meaningless and full of pain.

Re: LA
LA had two teams back when I out there, working in TV. They did not support either of them. Oh, sure... they loved the Rams and Raiders when they were winning, but when they had down seasons, the support dwindled away...

Despite LA's size and importance as a media market, I am not sure the city deserves an NFL team. The fans there are just so fickle.

Baseball and Football
Mets are my pick to win the World Series this year with that rotation and hitting lineup. Also, Jets this year are a nice solid team, shame they are in the same division as the Patriots. I think the Eagles win tonight against the Giants, well hopefully win...

Re: Baseball and Football
With their division, I really don't think the Jets will get anywhere. They are a very inconsistent team at the best of times. I mean they lost against Philadelphia which is at best middle of the pack.....then have to go on to face a Patriots offense, and eventually a Broncos defense again....idk man, I. Don't. Know.

Exciting times!
I told my buddy who is a long-time, but pessimistic Mets fan that I thought the Mets would win the World Series this year. This was back in June or July. Their pitching is the best in MLB and they seemed to have a certain spark similar to what I've seen with the SF Giants in their recent championship runs. He was excited but did not want to jinx anything by agreeing with me. Now that the Mets have gotten through Arrieta (sp?) they have a clear advantage in this series because the Cubs do not have the starting pitching depth the Mets do. So I see the Mets wrapping this up fairly quickly. Maybe even a sweep, or in five games. And the J-E-T-S! are legit! I don't know if they are "Super Bowl bound" legit, but they will make the playoffs and have a good run. Very solid looking team right now and they are certainly heading in the right direction.

Re: Exciting times!
As a life-long Mets fan, I thank you for this assessment. This has been the best season I've ever experienced! Even better than 1986. I was around for the Miracle Mets of 1969, but I was too busy being embarrassed by my mother's hysterics as they rolled towards their win.

The Hulk was there in the stands last night. He looked disgruntled, as ever.
Oct. 19th, 2015 07:14 pm (UTC)
I admit to rooting for the Cubs. Not because I like the Cubs, being a frustrated Astros fan from way back I have no great love for the Cubs. I just think it would be hilarious if the Cubs made true the prediction from Back to the Future Part II. Things like that drive the gullible conspiracy theorists crazy, which is always entertaining.

Maybe someone needs to make Duda angry. Opposing pitchers won't like him when he's angry.

Would being angry lead him to strike out less often?

I know the Ny Mets are Apu's favorite squadron but damnit, I want the Cubs to win this to prove Back To The Future correct.

We're 5.5 point favorites over your G-men tonight. The Eagles haven't been stellar but your defense is swiss cheese. I think if Beckham makes it off the bench you guys have a chance, but not otherwise.
Oct. 20th, 2015 02:33 am (UTC)
Wow. Neither one of these teams deserve first place in the division based on their play so far.

Let's Go A's!
It's been a while, but I remember the smug joy of being one of only two A's fans in my office the year they swept the SF Giants out of Oakland.

Especially after they tried to convince us that the earthquake was just the sleeping Giants waking up. I think not.

Cubs fan here, and the series ain't over. The rookies don't know enough to feel the pressure (or so I hope). A wild three games at Wrigley is gonna send the series back to New York with all the pressure on the Mets. The Cubs will be the youngest team to win the Series in a long long time and your joy will turn to ashes in your mouth.

We shall see.

giants v. iggles
Clock operators' ineptitude + horrendous call on Jenkins (I blame those foolish 'can't breathe too hard on the QB' rules) = Tom Coughlin's bladder just exploded. Thank the gods its halftime.
