Big Ass Spider

No, not the movie (we showed that at the Cocteau when it was first released).

I am talking a REAL big ass spider, which has newly taken up residence in the parking lot of the former Silva Lanes, just off Rufina, outside what will soon be Meow Wolf's amazing art space.

That's my friend and euro-minion Jo standing underneath TaranTula, for a sense of scale.

The Silva Lanes/ Meow Wolf complex is still an active construction site, so you can't get too close... but the spider, and her friend the giant robot, are visible from the street, so do swing by and take a look if you're in the neighborhood.

Construction continues apace. No opening date set yet, but Meow Wolf is now talking February. I had the pleasure of taking some of the producers from THE EXPANSE through the exhibit last week, and they were as blown away as I am every time I see the site anew. Whenever it finally opens, it ought to be amazing.

You can learn more about the project and even buy a lifetime membership direct from Meow Wolf at https://meowwolf.com/2015/09/the-meow-wolf-lifetime-pass-limited-edition/

Meantime, 'ware the iron spider.

Mega Spider Mega Cool!
Just saw that spider last week on my way towards Cerrillos ... Mega Cool (and a little freaky)! We just moved to Santa Fe after working in and circling the city for 13 years (living in Espanola and Cochiti Lake). If I can sell my house in Cochiti I will absolutely purchase the Meow Wolf lifetime pass!

GAHHH! Kill it! Kill it with fire!

*runs and hides*

(Okay, cool sculpture, but damn, I'm scared of spiders and this did make me jump a bit when I first saw it. Very glad I don't live in New Mexico!)

LOL! Not even fire wil slay this beast!

It was actually a bit terrifying to turn a corner in my car and see this Big Ass Spider ... But living in New Mexico you get used to seeing crazy large arachnids all the time, out of nowhere, sometimes on you (shudders)

Yup. Not going back to the Southwest. Not gonna happen. Bad enough the monsters I have to deal with in the woods of Maryland.

Ice Spider
Dear Martin

Does this foreshadow the arrival of the much awaited Ice Spider?

On a separate note, given how we crazy fans are trying to solve the amazing riddle that is "A song of Ice and Fire", could you please let us know if we actually have enough information in the five books published to solve for what will happen at the end? Or do we need to wait for the next book.

Okay, Maman here in Ottawa-Gatineau cannot top that. Nor can her "sisters" across the planet.

Maman is way creepier, and besides being in Ottawa it can become an Ice Spider.

It looks like it came straight outta burning man.
Dec. 9th, 2015 09:00 pm (UTC)
Came out of Taos, actually, but I believe it did appear at Burning Man.

But we'll be glad to have it here in Santa Fe... home of the ORIGINAL burning man.

Dude who also owns Grinders in the Freighthouse art district also does gigantic sculptures. He has a yard where his pieces parts are visible most of the time.
