Danger! Peril! Death!

Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth stand in mortal danger and only you can save them.

Suvudu is doing another one of their Cage Match tournaments. This time the theme is Dynamic Duos. Jaime (one-handed) and Brienne have been paired together. In the first round they are facing Garth Nix's Sabriel... and a pussycat.

In the first Cage Match, lo these many years ago, Jaime defeated Cthulhu (with a little help from Tyrion). Surely he cannot lose to a fluffy little ball o' fur (and fleas). Not with the mighty maid of Tarth by his side.

But lost they will, unless you guys all get over there to vote.

That's no pussycat.

Regardless of how the match turns out (I'm sure that Sabriel and Mogget will get destroyed, since ASOIAF has so, so many fans), I hope that a few people pick up The Old Kingdom books because of it! They are my favorite.

I enjoyed the Old Kingdom books, but if I had a criticism of them it would be that although I liked the story, the writing was merely ok.

ASoIaF is far superior, IMO. For that reason, I'm voting for Jaime and Brienne. However, I am going to re-read the Old Kingdom books once I finish the series I'm currently working through (I'm at the tail end of book 3 of Joe Abercrombie's First Law trilogy).

I wonder how we're supposed to vote? I mean... Free mogget would definitely win a "fight" as he's OP and Jamie and Brienne of more practical means. And maybe, depending on if he's feeling mean, he'd kill sabriel too, if she wasn't on top of her game.

But voting by books or which is my favourite character, would change my vote... Oh damn. And I was planning a nice restful sleep this evening... *sigh*

Jaime & Brienne
Can't wait to see where these 2 characters will go in the future! :)

Jaime is my favorite character in the series. But, can he really beat anyone with just his left-hand?

They better win this if they wish to stand a chance against Lady Stoneheart and the BwB. :)

As they say in politics, vote early and vote often.

Have you seen the snow installation of a direwolf in the French Alps? It's simply stunning.

Jaime and Brienne, protecting and saving each other since Book 3.

They have my vote and my heart.

Jaime x Brienne FTW!
I can't wait to see them back together.

Danger! Peril! Death! Grammer! Spelling!
But lose they will ... or lost they will be ... methinks.

Jamie and Brienne winning in a landslide!
Mar. 8th, 2016 08:24 am (UTC)
I'd think Mogget would object to being called a 'pussycat'. Not to be trifled with, that cat is :)

But off to vote!

Edit: typo.

I'm sorry, but there is no way Jaime and Brienne, fine fighters though they are, should be able to beat Mogget and Sabriel. They are severely outclassed.
Mar. 9th, 2016 04:07 pm (UTC)
I mean, Jaime has already beaten Cthulhu.

If they win maybe this beauty and beast will finally confess their love for one another :P

Genetics in ASOIAF
Hi George, I was just watching a rather interesting video about the genetics of dragon riding and hatching in Targaryens. https://youtu.be/4aoFCZGr3LY. I was wondering if you'd watched them and whether there is any truth in them. I know a couple authors like J.K. Rowling have recently been debunking or approving certain theories about their books and considering this theory is not spoilery but rather speculation on history in ASOIF I though I should ask. This theory also involves the fact that both of Daenerys' parents had at least one dragon rider gene which made me wonder whether assuming that R+L=J or that Tyrion is the result of Aerys II raping Joanna Lannister (BTW I don't expect you to comment on either of these theories as they are spoilery), neither of them would be able to have dragon rider genes anyway as only the X gene has dragon rider capabilities, and as both of them are male, they would have gotten their X chromosomes from their mothers, (Starks and Lannister respectively) who I think we can safely assume do not have dragon rider genes. So I would like to know whether you think this theory is interesting, but not something you though of, or whether it is true to some extent, or even if it is completely wrong and silly to assume that this kind of logic applies in such a magical context.

P.S. I hope this wasn't the wrong spot to write this

Mogget's a curveball
Thing is though... I actually think Mogget would kill everyone if unleashed, Sabriel included. So sorry! I'm going to have to vote for Sabriel and Mogget!

o.0 Can't we just wish that Jamie tosses mogget into a river, and then gets sent walking past the gates himself?

Then Brienne and Sabriel decide they should just go and stop the whole Other's menace ?

They got my vote!!

There are some other really good teams if Jamie and Brienne make it past the first round (they will). Bean and Petra (Ender's Game), Roland and Jake (The Dark Tower) and Gimli and Legolas (uhhh... yeah) will be tough to beat.

Just going by who could beat one another up, the gunslingers are nearly unstoppable. Roland usually has 5-6 kills before anyone even notices his gun is drawn. As long as you pump him full of tooter fish popkins and treat any wounds with astin, he's untouchable.

Sabriel? Isn't that a brand of hummus?

Onward Westeros to Victory!

Tuf Decision...
Where's Haviland Tuf & his fine feline friends when you need them? :^)

Man it's totally cheating to use one-handed Jaime.

Please do writeups again. That was awesome last time.

Hopefully this time it's a win.
Mar. 9th, 2016 01:51 am (UTC)
Voted! Jaime and Brienne survived Westeros..so far. They deserve to win.

Torn Loyalties
Jaime and Brienne are both top-notch knights (and awesome characters), but Mogget is indefatigably unassailable. Also 'bells.

I had to go with Nix on this.

I just watched season 6 trailer though - WOW.

Oh George
You're going in the wrong way with this. If Jaime and the lady of Tarth lose on grounds of too few votes, you'll kill both off ofcourse. ;-)

Book Jaime or HBO Jaime?
Because, HBO's version of Jaime Lannister is absolutely dreadful. That cowardly rapist, who's character motivations make no sense deserves to die. Book Jaime though...well, book Jaime is the greatest character in the series, and his Feast for Crows level of leadership, and competence is what the Seven Kingdoms truly need. I'm assuming his needle work is improving, considering Chekov's gun must fire. Even if he isn't competent with his left, yet. Brienne will not let him die like Renly.
