Not Dead Yet

While it is strangely moving to realize that so many people around the world care so deeply about my life and death, I have to go with Mark Twain and insist that the rumors of my death have been greatly exaggerated.

It was Sir George Martin, of Beatles fame, who has passed away. Not me.

He will be missed. I never met Sir George (I did meet Paul McCartney once, for about a minute, while waiting for the valet to bring my rental car up at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills), but like many millions of others, I loved the Beatles, and Martin's contribution to their music is worthy of recognition and honor.

In his memory:

As for me, I am still here, still writing, still editing, still going to movies and reading books, and I expect to hang around for quite a while yet, thank you very much.

But thank you all for caring.

Long Live
Hi George,

When I read that I felt OMG. Then again read the name and felt thank God its not our George.

You should live long to enjoy the life you deserve and to write many books for us. I should live long to read those books. Its my wish.

Sometimes I feel sad that some of ASOIAF readers might have died without reading all books of the series. RIP those souls.

Title
Fractionally disappointed that you didn't elect for "Not Yet Dead" as the title to this entry, but nevertheless happy to know you're well.

George Francis Martin
You mean I trekked all this way through a warzone to save the life of George Francis Martin, and you're not really him?!

Maybe you should get Granny Weatherwax's "I Atn't Dead" placecard :) But seriously,I would not survive another favourite writer's death.

I remember the 70s, when there were George Martins in all my favorite things: you, the Beatles guy, and the Giants' defensive end.

Glad you are still with us. I'm old enough to remember who the late George Martin was (and a Beatles fan to boot). In a world where Paul McCartney is turned away from a VIP line because the person checking in the guests didn't know who he was I'm not surprised there was confusion. You are currently a known figure.

I'm just a few years younger than you are. It gets to where I check the Obits every day to see if I'm in there (helps me plan my day). I say we should fool them all and live to be old enough to be forgotten before the obit gets written!

Slante,
Kathleen

No offense, didn't even think of you until this! But then...I named my kid Strawberry Fields so I'm a bit biased. <3 Glad you're okay too though so sad to lose George!

"You're not fooling anyone, you know."

Irony
Glad to know you're still alright, and I'm sad that Sir George Martin is gone.

With that said, there's a certain irony to people trying to bump you off. We're used to *you* offing much-admired figures!

As soon as I heard the news on the BBC World Service, I thought "This is going to cause some confusion...". RIP George Martin, producer par excellence. A lot of people have been called the fifth Beatle, but he's someone who really deserves the title.
