Draft Week

Okay, this is amusing. What would it look like if NFL teams drafted characters from GAME OF THRONES?

Meanwhile, the real NFL is less than a week off, and as usual mock drafts are everywhere.

I don't do mocks, but I do have my wishlist. The Giants are drafting tenth, and boy, do they have a lot of needs. I am still reeling at how bad their defense was last year. Historically, in good years or bad years, the G-Men have always had a fearsome D, and they need to get back to that. They spent a fortune in free agency to bolster the defense, and with luck some of those players should have a difference... but given the way injuries always seem to decimate Big Blue, drafting for more D would make a lot of sense. The biggest need is for a top pass rusher. We still don't know if JPP will ever be the same player he was before he blew off half his hand, and even if he is, he needs help on the other side. Joey Bosa or Shaq Lawson would make me very happy in round one, if either one should last till number ten. That being said, there's also a chance Ezekial Elliott will be there as well, and if he is, I hope the Giants grab him. I love old smashmouth football, and the key to that is a bruising running game. Elliott looks as though he could be special.

As for the Jets, who knows? They draft considerably later. Some mocks have them taking a QB, but I don't know... the two top QB prospects will be coming off the board 1/2 this year, looks like, and I don't think anyone else is worth a first round pick. I am still hoping Gang Green can resign Fitz, to be sure, but if not, well, the Jets took Bryce Petty last year, I'd sooner they give him a chance rather than start over with someone new. Not that I have a vote. But if I did, I'd say the Jets should draft for defense as well. You can never have too many pass rushers, especially when you're in the same division as Tom Brady.

Sports Illustrated put out a similar list. Don't agree on with them on Tyrion as quarterback though; I think he'd be sacked too easily. http://www.si.com/nfl/2016/04/22/game-of-thrones-season-6-nfl-mock-draft

Game of Thrones NFL Draft
Samuel Tarley is the Tim Tebow of Game of Thrones! The guy's got so much heart.

Re: Game of Thrones NFL Draft
P.S. How about a scene where Sam, after slaying a horde of White Walkers and saving the day, proceeds to Tebowing? ;)

Completely agree George, I would love the Giants to go D with the #10 pick. If they can't get shaq, I would love for them to get Vernon Hargreaves from Florida (can never have too many db's). If they go offense, I would want them to get an OT to solidify the offensive line. A great running game starts up front with the big boys.
I love that you're a Giants fan like me. Go Big Blue!

NYG pick 10
Would you be happy if NYG draft Treadwell at pick 10?

One rumor had the Jets trading for Jay Cutler
Wouldn't necessarily be a bad trade, but no way the Bears take Geno Smith. No one wants Geno Smith...

I'm truly impressed by the list George, gives me that vibe of when you see a chess board and every piece just feels right in its own intended place and role.

Draft week Eagles trade
How about that Eagles Browns trade? Howie Roseman better know what he is doing or he is going to get shamed out of Philly.

I have a friend that actually sent me a link yesterday to a Game of Thrones fantasy league. I'm not sure how it works, but I think you draft or order characters and get points based on certain things like violence and sex.

I agree with your defensive picks George but I disagree on running back. Not a big fan of taking a RB in the early rounds, most of the time it seems like you can get one in the later rounds or as a rookie free agent. Though honestly with Reese, I don't think we'll end up getting anything of substantive value at any position in the later rounds (I'm talking round 2 or greater). I just hope he doesn't follow a trend in the NFL of the past couple of years of GMs who are on the hot seat that mortgage the future and trade future early round picks for a player in the current draft.

Got excited for a second thinking 'Draft' referred to a book draft.
Sorry, neither American nor into ball sports, I'll shut up and get back in my hole...

And based off the NFL.com list I'm going to guess that the Patriots will trade up early into the second round and draft Littlefinger. Scheming will ensue

Ezekiel Elliott
Elliott would be the perfect fit for Eli as he heads towards 40 (although Eli had a career year in 2015, just never know with him). He's great out of the backfield, and has the rare ability of picking up the blitz for such a young player.

But then again, the defense needs to get out of the cellar.

Shouldn't the Pats take Varys?

Draft Town
Are you coming to Chicago for the Draft? I went last year. It was so chill and laid back. An excellent environment in a great location (Grant Park). You should try and come! Have a break from work!

Re: Draft Town
No. I love Chicago, but I prefer to watch the draft from home.

"As for the Jets, who knows?"
Literally the answer to every question you could ask about the Jets.

Crazy thing is, Naharis actually looks like a Jet, but they'd probably be lost trying to figure out what to do with him like they were with Scott Frost or Brad Smith. He's quick, clever and strong, but undersized to play quarterback or wide receiver nowadays. So they'd dump him in as a safety or slot receiver and see what happens. He'd be a monster of special teams too. Fans would like him. He's got a Rich Miano, even a Fitz sort of vibe.

As for the draft, there's one rule the Jets should follow: take the guy who's rumored to smoke weed. Why didn't they Dan Marino? Rumors he smoked weed. First ballot Hall of Famer. Why didn't they take Warren Sapp? Rumors he smoked weed. First ballot Hall of Famer. This year they should trade up for that guy, then, as Lincoln said of Grant's whiskey, send a bag of what he smokes to everyone else on the team.

Geaux Saints
Great article...although I was surprised he didn't have the Saints draft a voodoo man like Qyburn. The mountain will be fine on his own!

The giants need varys to coach us.... whats good of a pashrusher without a hand (jayme), i would go for young griff though, we need a bright young new star to take it over Eli, like aaron and brett!!!

Giants draft
I don't think Elliott will make it past the Cowboys at #4 (I think the first three picks go Goff/Wentz/Ramsey). I'm a Cowboys fan (don't hate me) and I was hoping for Goff to fall to us, but alas, it looks like that's not going to happen.

Watching the Giants as I do, I think they'd be wise to go after Ronnie Stanley, OT, from Notre Dame, assuming that Laremy Tunsil is gone. The Giants' line hasn't been right in years, and they should look to the Cowboys who have been steadily building up their offensive line of the last 5 years.

Eli Apple
Giants fans need to worry about this kid because, according to an anonymous scout, he cannot cook. I am afraid that he might starve to death. Does anyone know where Eli can can find a place to eat in NYC?
