Hugo Nominees Announced

MidAmericon II has announced the final ballot for the 2016 Hugo Awards. You can find the list here:

http://midamericon2.org/home/hugo-awards-and-wsfs/2016-hugo-finalists/

It is, to say the least, a mixed bag. A lot of good books and stories, writers and artists... cheek by jowl with some stuff that is considerably less worthy.

I will have more to say when I've had more time to review and digest the ballot.

Ah... no, you really shouldn't.

If you read it and like it, well, it's your vote. But don't vote on anything just on title alone.

I meant it in the sense of "that makes me laugh like a 12-year-old." If I can't say the title without smiling, it's brought at least a little joy to the world. I figure that at least earns it a spot above "No Award".

And I'm not voting anyway, so it doesn't matter.

I quite like the Bizarro philosophy of making books with the most whacked out titles possible in order to get people to at least read them. The fact that Carlton Mellick and Jeff Burk and the guys are pretty damn good writers also makes it a joy to read books like Shatnerquake and Baby Jesus Buttplug.

Chuck Tingle is a bit of a genius in writing bizarro gay erotica with these titles and he can usually churn them out before the cultural zeitgeist that he's mocking goes away.
