Hugo Nominees Announced

MidAmericon II has announced the final ballot for the 2016 Hugo Awards. You can find the list here:

http://midamericon2.org/home/hugo-awards-and-wsfs/2016-hugo-finalists/

It is, to say the least, a mixed bag. A lot of good books and stories, writers and artists... cheek by jowl with some stuff that is considerably less worthy.

I will have more to say when I've had more time to review and digest the ballot.

Better than last year, but does look like we need EPH
Sorry you and GOT didn't get nominated this year, but I suspect Winds of Winter will be a *very* strong contender in its year of release.

This is better than last year: a lot more nominations, a lot more non-Puppy nominations, and fewer Rabid-dominated categories. And congrats to Alyssa Wong for her Campbell nod! Still clearly demonstrates the need for EPH (we shall have to agree to disagree on that! You're in good company, tho--the excellent Ben Yalow has reservations about it). Looks like I'll be going to the business meeting again this year to support it.

In the meantime, back to my own writing!

To be clear, Ben Yalow has reservations about EPH for admirable and thoughtful reasons: He said (during Sasquan's WSFS Business Meeting) that Worldcon fandom should beware of seeming to change the rules solely because it didn't like the election results, especially when those new rules are so complex they require their own FAQ.

This is a valid point, one I respect though I voted the other way, and that I commend to everyone's attention. Or come to the MAC2 Business Meeting and hear the estimable Ben himself.
