Hugo Nominees Announced

MidAmericon II has announced the final ballot for the 2016 Hugo Awards. You can find the list here:

http://midamericon2.org/home/hugo-awards-and-wsfs/2016-hugo-finalists/

It is, to say the least, a mixed bag. A lot of good books and stories, writers and artists... cheek by jowl with some stuff that is considerably less worthy.

I will have more to say when I've had more time to review and digest the ballot.

Re: First glance...
The Rabid slate co-occupies no less than 40% and in many cases 100% of the various categories. File 770 put up a list of the finalists, highlighting the ones not on the Rabid list. I'd link it directly, but they're down at the moment; Mike Glyer put an archive copy up here.

But it's not as simple as last time. The Rabids made several sabotage nominations this year, I think hoping that people would NO AWARD everything on the Rabid slate once this happened, thus reducing the number of awards given - as was their threat. (Scroll down to the mushroom-cloud graphic.)

I therefore think the proper response this year is:

1. NO AWARD above all Rabid organisers and supporters. Anyone who supported it, anyone who promoted it, anyone who worked on it: NO AWARD over them. NO AWARD above Vox Day, NO AWARD above Castalia House (and all its works), NO AWARD above all of it.

2. Everywhere else, vote what's best, as if it were a normal year.

And for the love of the gods, let's pass e pluribus hugo to throttle this stuff back.
