A Taste of This, A Taste of That

Some of you may not realize that, in addition to my Not A Blog, I also have an actual homepage / website. You can find it here: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/ Check it out, if you have not visited before. There's lots and lots of content there, all sorts of things to explore.

I must confess, though, I don't update it as often as I should. What can I say? I'm busy.

But today we uploaded a couple of new items that some of you may be interested in: new samples from two forthcoming books.

For all the Wild Cards fans out there, we've got a taste of HIGH STAKES, due out this August. HIGH STAKES is the twenty-third volume in the overall series, and the third and concluding part of the 'Fort Freak' triad. The sample is from the pen of the talented Ian Tregillis, and features Mollie Steunenberg, aka Tesseract. You'll find it at: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/wild-cards-excerpt/

((Readers with weak stomachs be warned, HIGH STAKES is our Lovecraftian horror book, and things do get graphic and bloody and... well... horrible. Althought not so much in the sample)).

And... because I know how much bitching I'd get if I offered a new sample from Wild Cards without also doing one from A SONG OF ICE & FIRE... we've also changed the WINDS OF WINTER sample on my wesbite, replacing the Alayne chapter that's been there for the past year with one featuring Arianne Martell. (Some of you may have heard me read this one at cons).

Have a read at: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/excerpt-from-the-winds-of-winter/

You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in WINDS OF WINTER? Quite a lot, actually. The sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait.

And no, just to spike any bullshit rumors, changing the sample chapter does NOT mean I am done. See the icon up above? Monkey is still on my back... but he's growing, he is, and one day...

hahaha, "Aegoncourt"
I'm noticing the aptly named Stormlands are experiencing some inclement weather in this chapter. That combined with Black Balaq's Black Balaqness, jConz's new love affair with archers, and Haldon's claim that Team Aegon will defeat their enemies in the field paints an interesting picture of the wars to come... Might things be heading in an Agincourty direction?

This may sound stupid, but since you seem to be answering minor questions... There's an ongoing debate over the implications of the lines that "Nothing holds an edge like Valyrian steel."

Some people think that this means part of the magical property of Valyrian steel is that it never needs sharpening, and may not even require oiling. Whereas others think that this simply means Valyrian steel can be honed to a sharper edge, and stays sharp longer, than conventional swords.

Could you put an end to this question? Thanks, and hope everything is going well for you.

In The Lost Lands
Hello, mr Martin!
Sorry for the off-top question. Is there any news about film "In the Lost Lands" with Milla Jovovich? You made a post about it in February 2015, but there was not a word about it since when. Was it cancelled?

Returning to main topic... Love the new chapter from TWOW! Wish you all inspiration and strenght in the world to defeat Son of Kong.

RE: In The Lost Lands
Lost Lands is still in development.

That is the way it works with movies, alas.

Tucson (Off-topic, kind of)
If anyone wants to see GRRM at Tuscon later this year, you should probably register now. The entire con is capped at 500 people, and it doesn't look like they'll be selling tickets at the door, so this is one that you should probably register early for.

I own just about everything related to ASOIAF from the GoT series, the Lands, the World both book and app, the Cookbook, Roy Dotrice Audio books, and not to mention the series itself. The money you've earned off of me has been money well spent, along with annoyed wife not wanting to discuss ASOIAF for hours on date nights.

I know your time is valuable and your pet monkey gets bigger by the day, but i have a question not on how the books will end, but when you do eventually finish. I'm quite positive you won't let the series end like LOST with dozens of unanswered plotlines, but with so much content there's bound to be some loose ends left unanswered. After you've completed the series will you continue to be interactive with fans and answer questions that possibly went unanswered like what was Jaq H doing in those dungeons, and what happened to The cannibal Dragon from "the dance" I'd love to attend a convention where you are the celebrity guest and ask in person, however personal income, the Carolinas shortage of conventions, working weekends and Kids present a good challenge for a man. Anyway thanks again for the World you've created and the entertainment it's brought me.

Loved the new sample chapter, Mr. Martin! Take your time to get your work to your satisfaction. I look forward to reading Winds, and beyond!

Thank you!
Thank you for the update on Winds! Also, another thanks for reminding us that Dorne is a real place and not like the Disney cartoon that it is on the show. I am a fan of the show, just that the Dorne storyline is cringeworthy.

Hello is there any plans to re-release book 8 as well as the other older wild card series books in the UK as happened with books 1-7? ( Just wondered as I've recently finished book 7 and don't fancy paying £70+ for a paperback of 8 and I think skipping about 10 books and reading the newer ones probably isn't a great idea if i want to keep track of the story lol)

I'll ask Gollancz the next time I see them (which should be soon). I get the impression from their marketing that they've been moving away from the individual reprints towards their e-book omnibuses (the first one containing Books 1-3 and the second Books 4-7), so I assume they're selling a lot better in that format. That may be impacting how Gollancz plan to proceed forwards from here. Certainly there's no listing for ONE-EYED JACKS (Book 8) in a UK edition by itself anywhere I can find.

It may be also worth asking Gollancz direct, via their website, email or Twitter feed.
