A Taste of This, A Taste of That

Some of you may not realize that, in addition to my Not A Blog, I also have an actual homepage / website. You can find it here: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/ Check it out, if you have not visited before. There's lots and lots of content there, all sorts of things to explore.

I must confess, though, I don't update it as often as I should. What can I say? I'm busy.

But today we uploaded a couple of new items that some of you may be interested in: new samples from two forthcoming books.

For all the Wild Cards fans out there, we've got a taste of HIGH STAKES, due out this August. HIGH STAKES is the twenty-third volume in the overall series, and the third and concluding part of the 'Fort Freak' triad. The sample is from the pen of the talented Ian Tregillis, and features Mollie Steunenberg, aka Tesseract. You'll find it at: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/wild-cards-excerpt/

((Readers with weak stomachs be warned, HIGH STAKES is our Lovecraftian horror book, and things do get graphic and bloody and... well... horrible. Althought not so much in the sample)).

And... because I know how much bitching I'd get if I offered a new sample from Wild Cards without also doing one from A SONG OF ICE & FIRE... we've also changed the WINDS OF WINTER sample on my wesbite, replacing the Alayne chapter that's been there for the past year with one featuring Arianne Martell. (Some of you may have heard me read this one at cons).

Have a read at: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/excerpt-from-the-winds-of-winter/

You want to know what the Sand Snakes, Prince Doran, Areo Hotah, Ellaria Sand, Darkstar, and the rest will be up to in WINDS OF WINTER? Quite a lot, actually. The sample will give you a taste. For the rest, you will need to wait.

And no, just to spike any bullshit rumors, changing the sample chapter does NOT mean I am done. See the icon up above? Monkey is still on my back... but he's growing, he is, and one day...

All I'll say about Winds is that chapter was very good. Does the monkey pictured above have a name?

The reprints will continue as long as they continue to sell.

Do you still enjoy writing ASOIAF?
I know people always harrassing you is annoying, but I hope you still enjoy the creative process as much as we enjoy reading it. You bring a lot of people happiness with your work (if not your characters), and I hope Westeros and Essos still make you happy as well.

the chapter
Thank you george for the chapter. I really enjoyed. loved lady Mary Mertyns.
but i am also confused. the chapter is written from Arianne p.o.v, so we don't suppose to know Lysono Maar name until he is telling it to Arianne. yet in the chapter we know his name without him telling. Did i miss something? or is it just a small erro

Prologue and Epilogue
Almost all ASOIAF books consist of a prologue and an epilogue (except for FEAST which doesn't have an epilogue.)

Will it be the same for WINDS? If so, will they be, as usual, from new POV characters?

Fans have never settled on a term for people like Beric who have been resurrected with R'hllorian magic. Will we learn one?

bitching?
I have always been understanding of the time it takes for you to write your masterpieces and I appreciate you releasing the sample, but to be honest I am a little off put on how you worded the delivery of it.

Most of your fans aren't assholes, we wouldnt of been bitching at you for releasing a sample of another work of yours. I am a little sad that you think we are all like this. You should know better than anyone that the actions/words of a few do not represent everyone.

It's funny, I've read your blog for a while, I am a die hard jets fan too and have thought about commenting on your jets posts, but this is the first time ive felt compelled to write.

Not all your fans are that petty, I really hope you don't actually think that. I'm gonna chalk this up to you being stressed and annoyed by negative fans and I really hope you dont see all of your fans as whiny children ready to bitch at you for not getting a morsel. Good luck George and go JETS

A Feast of Ice & Fire...
Ser Martin! Longtime fan of the books (and now the show), and this season premiere my friend and I threw an epic Game of Thrones dinner party. It could not have gone better! Everyone came in costume, and we feasted for 40 pages on dishes lifted straight from your words.

Pictures here! http://damngoodshindig.com/2016/05/11/game-of-thrones-dinner-party/

Thank you so much for your immersive, unceasingly compelling world.

And thanks for the new excerpt! I realized how much I missed these characters.

Monkey growth
Hello Mr. Martin,
I am a biologist by profession. Would you like a batch of growth hormones for your monkey? ;)
Loved the new chapter. Thanks for all the work you are doing!

World of Ice and Fire
Hey George,

I just read A World of Ice and Fire and LOVED it (I'm a history major). I know it's fake history - but do you enjoy writing that? Because I sure as hell enjoy reading it.

Do you feel that was a one time shot?

Re: World of Ice and Fire
Not at all. There were hundreds of thousands of words of fake history we had to cut for space. All of which will be published eventually, when I complete my history of the Targaryen kings.

Storm
Hello George, I was wondering if in either TWOW or ADOS will the whereabouts of Edric Storm be revealed? And if it's not too spoilery, will it have an impact on the overall endgame? Love the chapter by the way :)

I loved this chapter! I especially loved the description of the forest the party is traveling through. It reminded me of some of the beautiful forests in the Northwest (Oregon and Washington). Was the American Northwest an inspiration for the Forests of the Storm Lands? Thanks and cannot wait for the book! So excited!!
