The King and I

What a great time last night in Albuquerque, at the Kiva Auditorium.

Stephen King is on tour to promote his new novel, END OF WATCH, the third and concluding volumes in his 'Mercedes killer' trilogy, and the good folks at Bookworks were kind enough to ask me to sit down with him for an hour of conversation.

We talked about childhood, writing, reading, naked day, the nature of evil, and rats.

Went for an hour, but we could have gone for ten. Steve's an amazing guy, and a great writer.

(We hope to be able to offer a video soon. Watch this space).

Speaking of rats and kings, this makes me think of the natural "rat king" phenomenon, which I've had the displeasure of learning about recently. As good horror writers, I'm sure the both of you appreciate images like that.

Garderners VS Architects and title nitpicking
Hello Mr. Martin.

I've read and listened your writing analogy of gardeners VS architects.

Regarding this, on which side do you think Mr. King falls on?

Anyhow, best wishes on all of your future endeavours Mr. Martin, love all your works.

Thank you, truly, for everything.

P.S. I would have prefered for this post to be titled "A (Friendly) Clash of Kings" :)

Uncle Stevie is most definitely a "gardener."

As is his son, Joe Hill.

There are no words.
I can't believe I missed what will probably be the only opportunity to ever see the two of you TOGETHER talking about writing and life.

If anything like this--the opportunity to hear a talk from two of the greatest fiction writers in modern history-- ever gets scheduled again, even if it's in a lecture hall in Alaska, PLEASE let us know. Immediately.

PS--Do you realize how crazy the people would be if either of you made a cameo appearance on the tv/film adaptation of each other's sci-fi/fantasy magnum opus novel? Because there HAS to be time for a stopover on The Path of the Beam. You both wrote about a Crimson King, after all.

Speed
I laughed so hard at your last question about writing speed that my drink came out my nose. Thanks George!

I was so bummed about missing that. Only had time for one road trip this summer, and I chose MAC II. Glad it's being uploaded though. I would kill my entire family with an axe to have been in that room . . . or a roque mallet.

No. Steve used to come to cons, and we would see each other there.

You two are definitely my favorite writers. Looking forward to a video of this meeting, I'm too curious. If I may, what books of Mr. King did you like better?
