Two for the Win Column

Life is magical and full of joy? Well, that may be overstating the case this weekend. Let's just say life is tolerable and full of hope.

By which I mean, hell yes, the Giants and the Jets both won this week, and that was good. But neither win was convincing enough to have me turning cartwheels. The Giants beat the Rams in London, and the Jets beat the Ravens at home. Neither of those teams is exactly a powerhouse this season, however, and both games were a lot closer than I would have liked or hoped.

The Giant offense was supposed to be lights out this year with Eli and three terrific wideouts, but it looked anemic yesterday. Big Blue has no running game whatsoever. The highlight of the game in London was an insane pick six runback by Landon Collins that changed the whole momentum of the game. Aside from that, and one cool catch by ODB, there wasn't much.

As for Gang Green, well, this was the week that Geno Smith got his starting qb jon back. He held on to it for almost a quarter before an injury sent him back to the sidelines, and brought Fitz back in again. Good thing Fitz did not get hurt, since neither one of the young Jet quarterbacks was active. The win broke the losing streak, which is good, but at 2-5 the Jets have little or no chance of making the playoffs, so I think the debate over whether Fitz or Geno should start next week is pointless. It's time to give Petty and Hackenberg some playing time, to see if either of them is the long awaited savior Jets fans have been waiting for since Joe Willie.

Poor sad niner fan... happy to talk about other teams
How do you feel about what fitz said after the game? "Because when the owner stops believing in you and the GM stops believing in you and the coaches stop believing in you, sometimes all you have is yourself. That's kind of something I've dealt with before and something I'm dealing with now." Yikes...

Thats one of the reasons why we still love fitz in the 716!

Based on your subject title, I expected this to be a thread about this weekends removal of two main characters from another well loved TV show :)

Overall it look good
For the evil empire. Our win over the Steelers wasnt as good as i thought, but without yoda coughlin eli skywalker seems lost. Gang green with no real answer at QB may even win just enough games as not to get good picks in the draft.

Landon Collins is a coverage guy, and Quincy Enunwa is seriously fast. Everything we knew is wrong.

The London game must have been at 7:30am for you... Ouch! Football and breakfast!

That's why the gods gave us TiVo.😀

Re: Early morning
Is that the Old Gods or the new?

Bills fan here. Sometimes I like to think of my Franchise as the Starks. "Winter is coming" and I do live in Buffalo anyway... and we need to win a Super Bowl eventually right?

It seems we both have two mutual enemies (although admittedly, I'm about as big a fan as them as I am you). These two are none other than Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. If you were to compare these two to any characters from ASOIAF, who would you you compare them to?

Tough news about Geno Smith. Jets should trade for Tony Romo instead of going back to Fitzpatrick. Cowboys might move Romo given how well Prescott has played.

Hear us weep!
Even though the field was blue, rather than crimson, the Redskins heard the Lion's roar at the end. So close. Tough way to lose on the near last play.

Geno has a likely torn ACL :( I don't feel confident about Fitz leading us to winning record this season. Start Petty?
Oct. 24th, 2016 10:54 pm (UTC)
I feel sad for Geno. His contract expires at the end of the year, so this is probably the end of his tenure as a Jet.

Looks like they are going back to Fitz. But unless he can get red hot and rip off a long winning streak, I think we'll be seeing Petty sooner rather than later.

Give Fitz a chance!
I am with "The Machine" B. Marsh. they need to stay on the ship with Fitzpatrick. Last year he was great, it seems like this time round his communication with his receivers minus the down field threat in Decker and an addition of a once great back in Matt Forte has been off. That defense when it is on can stop anybody, there is still hope but the season is over as soon as you hand the reigns to a rookie when the league is in mid season and other teams have gelled, nothing but a confidence breaker for most newbies. Trust in the Fitz his future is on the line so he has to give it his all.

Coach Mac play calling
Would love to hear your thoughts on the play calling of the giants offense. I am a big giants fan and last year we would a least be fighting in every single game, every sunday i feel that we have no bite :/

Re: Coach Mac play calling
I think the big problem is the lack of a running game. We keep trying to establish one, but with no success. So the defenses can blanket our wideouts without fear that we'll go smashmouth on them. I am so tired of seeing Jennings crash into the line for a yard and a half. Whether the problem is our running backs, or the offensive line, I am less certain.

Thank you!
Mr. Martin, I would just like to thank you for a beautiful signed copy of A Game of Thrones Illustrated Edition! The illustrations are stunning and I was so happy to see some of Donato Giancola's work there too! He's one of my favorite A Song of Ice and Fire illustrators.

A sincere, thanks.
Mr. Martin, Im sorry people being dicks to you about your craft. They must not realize the amount of organization and attention to detail it takes to have seamless stories. Its been a privilege to read your work. Like many others, I am a lover of your world in ASOIAF. I, too, look forward to having questions answered. I would rather wait for a masterpiece, than have a halfassed book. So, fuck everyone thats heckling you. Its your artwork, maester of story telling. I look forward to reading the next installment...at your leisure.

Sincerely, Amanda DiNatale

While I appreciate the sentiments and support, I do wish that everyone would remember to stay on topic. This is a football topic.

Jets have to make it easier on fitz... he is not Tom Brady and they don't have a great chance at winning throwing it 40 times a game. They picked up Forte for a reason; both games where he got 30 carries (which may be a lot given his age, not sure that's doable on a weekly basis) they won. Run the ball, don't be afraid to dump it off to Forte, one of the great receiving backs in the league’s history, and throw it up to Marshall every once in a while. Probably too much man coverage with little to no help over the top on defense. Revis isn't what he used to be. Soften up the defensive backs and let them react to the ball while that monster front 7 they have can do what they do best, get after the quarterback. Very surprised Bowles has relied so heavily on Gailey's passing game so far this season... especially in today's NFL. We may have a year or two where it's not necessarily the elite quarterback that carries you to the promise land, but stout defense (2015 Carolina, Denver, Seattle) like the good ol' days.

Giants vs. Bengals
I'm eagerly awaiting the match-up between our two teams on Nov. 15th. Both teams had high expectations at the beginning of the season and are now under intense pressure to win games. I think both the Bengals and Giants are fighting for 'wild card' slot at this point. Should be a fun game to watch!
