Voted

Just got back from the courthouse, where I cast my vote.

It was a busy, bustling scene. The poll watchers and election personnel told me that early voting is way up compared to 2012, at least in Santa Fe County. That's encouraging.

After you cast your ballot, they give you one of those little red, white, and blue I VOTED stickers. We want to do our own part in encouraging everyone to get out and vote, so from now until November 9 anyone who turns up at the Jean Cocteau Cinema with one of those stickers will get a FREE POPCORN. No charge for butter, or the topping of your choice. And we do have the best popcorn in town, so...

I have to admit, this election has me very anxious, especially this past week as the polls began to tighten. Every four years someone is sure to say, "This is the most important election of our lifetime," but this year I think that is absolutely true.

In other words: vote. Do it for America, do it for the world, do it for your children, do it for the popcorn... but DO IT.

Congrats
I must admit I am starting to get a little annoyed that I have to wait until election day to vote in PA. If I could vote, than I could pretend the election was over.

Obviously you wrote characters like Euron a long time before 2016, but do you feel like you've grappled with what motivates the base of supporters through your writing?

Early voting -
Voted here in Houston on the 1st day (last Monday). We've had record early voting turnout for each day! No "buffoons" here, thanks.

The election has been making me very anxious too. I'm looking forward to voting for Hillary, but I wish I lived in a swing state where my vote mattered more! Darn the electoral college.

Hearts
Are the little hearts at the bottom of posts a new LiveJournal feature?

Re: Hearts
Yes. They are some sort of "like" feature for approving of posts that you enjoy.

I think.

You have mentioned a couple of times that being a good king doesn't mean you are a good person, and being a good man doesn't necessary make you a good king. Is it possible that a bad person could become a good president?

In theory, sure. History is full of bad men who were good kings, if you define "good" as meaning "made their country richer and more powerful," etc. Edward I of England probably falls into that category, along with Philip IV and Louis XI of France, and maybe Louis XIV as well.

Of course, there are also plenty of bad men who were bad kings as well, and led their countries to ruin and destruction.

In an election cycle like this, it must be extremely frustrating for non-Americans to have no voice in whether the largest economy and most powerful military on the planet falls under the control of an impulsive and ignorant narcissist who has, on multiple occasions, questioned why we have nukes if we can't use them. Or who thinks climate change is a Chinese hoax. Or who wants to default on U.S. debt so he can 'make a better deal.'

A single vote in this contest isn't much, but I'm guessing a lot of people around the world would kill for that one vote right now.

You are absolutely correct. I know a lot of my fellow Canadians are kind of heartsick right now about the whole thing. (Keep in mind that even the most conservative Canadian province - Alberta - is still pretty darned liberal by US standards.)

Who did you vote for?
I imagine (based on your comments this past year) you didn't vote for Trump, so did you go with Clinton or with one of the third party options?
Since you are a registered Democrat, did you vote in the primaries? what's your opinion on Sanders?

It's amazing how you had Donald Trump in mind decades ago when you created Joffrey Baratheon as a character.
