Another Win, Another Loss

I was in Arizona at Tuscon this past weekend, so I did not see the Jets game. Good thing, that. From what I heard, it was a truly abysmal performance. The only point of interest is that Bryce Petty started at QB, and did moderately well. I hope he continues to start for the rest of the year. The season is over, might as well see what we've got in Petty. Neither Geno nor Fitz is going to be on the team next season, I figure, and we do need a quarterback.

The Giants played Monday night, and won their fourth game in a row, a hard-fought one-point win over the Cincinnati Bengals. I did catch that one. Good game, too. Big Blue's offense is still not the explosive juggernaut I was hoping for pre-season (Victor Cruz is badly missed, and there's still no running game), but the defense is looking better every week. This victory belonged to the D. Let's hope they continue to improve. And come back soon, Victor!

Tuscon was a pleasant, friendly, low-key con, by the way. They took good care of me, and I had fun. Signed a lot of books too.

Go Giants, Eli is still an elite qb. No question. I think they can have a better 2nd half season.

Hey, four wins in a row ain't bad! It's frustrating to see the Giants still sitting below the Bengals in the 538 rankings. I'm a Seahawks fan, so things are going pretty well... heh. Hey, I'm going to be visiting the Railyard this weekend for the farmers' market and such (my NM family is having a stay-cation in SF this week). I have a specific question about the JCC: what brand of espresso do you use? Illy?
Nov. 16th, 2016 09:36 pm (UTC)
Actually, I don't know. Not an expresso guy myself.

Giants Looking Good
The Giants are really starting to see returns on the money they spent on defense this off-season... although I do think they need a much better running game to be a serious playoff threat.

On another note, are there any events in the rust belt any time soon? Particularly near Buffalo?

I have never watched the sport before, played a few video games in the past of this sport but it is not the same.

You're not going to be happy when New England plays Dallas in the Super Bowl. Who would you root for?
Nov. 16th, 2016 09:37 pm (UTC)
I would root for a giant meteor to strike the stadium.

Petty would have done better if Bowles/Gailey didn't keep him on a tight leash with the playcalling. I strongly believe it would better serve the team to allow him to run the same kinds of plays as Fitz. If he throws 6 picks, then he throws 6 picks. But just forcing runs up the middle and screens in every single situation isn't going to do Petty any favors, and it's not going to do the Jets any favors either.

Think positive... I am a packers fan and we are bummin too. However both giants and packers last superbowls were after horrible seasons where we pwn in playoffs

It was a pleasure to meet you, and you were so kind to spend time with all of us! Thank you for the hour of insight, and for the time you spent signing all that stuff. Did you ever make it up to the hospitality suite? I hear that all the green m and m's went missing! Hugs:)

Random question...
Are you ordained to marry couples?
My fiancee & I love you immensely, for your heart, brain, & the incredible work you have given the world.
(He named his eldest son, who just turned 18, Benjen.)
We live in Arizona & I am beating myself up for missing the follow up emails for the con you were at here. The TusCon team were incredibly kind & communicative. Meeting you is on our bucket list.
Sending you love and respect.

No, i don't perform marriages, though my friend Ed Bryant, who was also at Tuscon, does.

Considering the things that happen at weddings in Westeros, he'd be a much better choice than me.

Would you be willing to draw a dragon (or a naked Daenerys) together with your signature if fans gave 100 $ (or more?) to your wolf sanctuary when ordering a book from the Cocteau?

Re: Dragons?
You would not like the result. I am not much of an artist.

Now, I could have Raya draw something for that donation. She's a wonderful artist, and I am sure she could do a great dragon and/or Dany... though maybe not naked. Emilia Clarke is in her 20s, but book Dany is still under the age of 18, so there are problems there.

Almost Entirely Offtopic
Dear George,

Your books are about the larger struggle between war and peace, in the heart of humans and in the heart of their civilization. In your books, peace is usually on the right side of history.

Do you feel that the Game of Thrones adequately represents that vision?
Nov. 19th, 2016 08:20 am (UTC)
Gmen D
Firstly, George, I cannot overstate what a fan I am. The fact that you are a giants fan is such a boon!

Giants D looked awesome on Monday (almost 50% of their season sacks YTD). But honestly, the blame for the offensive anemia rests squarely on the O-line. Given even a little time Eli & the WR corps look great and the same could be said for the underrated RB's w/ a little space.

Don't want to be too negative in my first post, Spags is the man and he owned Dalton!
