Black Friday Books

It is Black Friday, the day when Christmas shopping begins in earnest.

So let me say again: books make great Christmas presents, and autographed books are even better. Being hard to fine and all.

We have a great selection at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, including two very special Anniversay Editions. The GAME OF THRONES anniversary hardcover, signed by yours truly, and the OUTLANDER anniversary edition, autographed by Diana Gabaldon.

And if anniversary editions are not your thing, we've got all sorts of other signed books as well. Here are just a few of those.

For these, and many other titles, head to http://www.jeancocteaubooks.com/

And yes, the JCC does now accept international orders... but you'll need to act soon (or pay a lot more) to get the books there by Christmas.

Alas, I already have a copy of the anniversary edition of GoT, but it still lacks an autograph. I fervently wish I might have the chance to get that sorted out next year at Worldcon 75. Dare I dream?

Dream away. I almost never miss worldcon.

Signed books
Is there any chance a signed copy of Fevre Dream will ever pop up in the JCC bookstore?

I picked it up a while back and loved it. Thought a signed copy would be a great gift.

By the way, is the Fever River in Westeros a nod to Fevre Dream?

Re: Signed books
I think we have signed copies of FEVRE DREAM, though not the hardcover.

And yes, the Fever River is indeed a bit of self-referential play.

Re: Signed books
I'm not seeing any copies on the website at the moment.

I'll keep an eye out for some in the future. Still hope to visit the JCC in person one day.

Re: Signed books
We reader love to find those references, I read Fevre Dream before reading the ASOIAF and was really thrilled to find said reference.

But of course books are hard to fine... they have no money! Books are fine, sometimes hard to find, often banned or burned, but Ive not ever heard of a book being fined.

;) Will be ordering soon!

What do you think of the tattoo craze George?
They aren't for sailors and convicted felons anymore. You can't be a true hipster without some ink. Do you plan on getting a sleeve tattoo this Christmas?

Re: What do you think of the tattoo craze George?
Not for me... but the suicide girls wear them well.

You've Got It All Wrong
Guys don't get tattoos for themselves, they get them for the ladies. The whole point is to try and trick them into thinking there is an air of mystery about you. I say you surprise Parris this Christmas with a giant Eiffel Tower across your arm. Maybe have "We'll always have Paris" written on top. Or a macchiato recipe written in French.

Thanks I will add those wild cards books above to my Christmas list since I am rather enjoying the first one and I am very happy with the 20th anniversary edition of a game of thrones The pictures are gorgeous I am hoping they do the rest of the series as well. Though if that does happen it will finally give me a reason to hate your writing pace as I will have to wait a very long time before we get the ones for a feast for crows, a dance with dragons and more importantly the winds of winter and a dream of spring (I am joking its cool). Also just one question regarding your website: It says you have only got three appearances coming up is this true or is it in need of some updating?

Selling fantasy artwork at the bookstore
I was wondering if your bookstore would ever consider selling replicas of fantasy artwork as posters etc. I would like to buy some for my home.

Story of Your Life
Hey George,

have you read Story of Your Life by Ted Chiang? Also did you watch it's adaptation, Arrival?

Re: Story of Your Life
Hope to see the movie tonight. We tried to go last night, but it was sold out.

I commented here during the political madness (don't worry, I won't say anything more about that), so now I feel obliged to say something more relevant.

Mr. Martin: You've obviously heard this a million times, but I'm a big fan of the Ice&Fire novels. I read them all and was thoroughly entertained. It was also interesting to see how you wove in threads from medieval history and the fantasy tradition.

I wish you the best of luck on Winds of Winter.

ASOIAF Titled Chapters
I have a question regarding the titled chapters that begin in A Feast for Crows with The Prophet and which appear to continue into the next book as evidenced by The Forsaken chapter. Are these titled chapters inversion chapters? Is the current story a mirrored and reversed reflection of the past?

Melisandre said the Wall is one of the great hinges of the world, and it seems like it's been opened somehow, like a great wheel of time has suddenly been reversed. Are you able to acknowledge that I am on the right track without giving too much away?

Signed Copy
I have my 20th anniversary edition of A Game of Thrones, I would love to have it signed, any chance you will be coming to Fort Lauderdale, Florida soon?

Re: Signed Copy
No trips to Florida on my schedule at present. Sorry.

I have been cutting back on my appearances until WINDS is done. The only events on my 2017 schedule are in Long Beach, California, and Helsinki, Finland.

Re: Dunk & egg
Uh... the Dunk & Egg collection is out. It's called KNIGHT OF THE SEVEN KINGDOMS. You can get a signed copy from the JCC.

Yes, there will be more stories, eventually. But not until WINDS is done.
