South of the Border

Strange to say, although I have lived in New Mexico since 1979, I have never really visited Old Mexico. Oh, I attended a Westercon in El Paso a few years back, and spent an afternoon in Juarez with some other fans and writers. And I spent a few hours in Tijuana back in the late 80s, I believe, while attending Comicon in San Diego. But that hardly counts. There's a lot more to Mexico than the border towns.

My first real visit to Mexico starts tomorrow, when I jet down to Guadalajara for the Guadalajara International Book Fair: https://www.fil.com.mx/ingles/i_info/i_info_fil.asp

I'm one of the guests at the conference. I'll be doing interviews, a press conference, a live streaming event, and a signing. I expect I will be doing some tequila tasting as well. I am informed that Guadalajara is the tequila capital of Mexico.

I am looking forward to meeting my Mexican publishers, editors, and fans.

This is my last scheduled event for 2016. My appearance schedule for 2017 is very limited, and will remain so until WINDS is completed. So if you want to meet me or get a book signed, this will be the last chance for a good few months...

See you south of the border.

San Miguel
Sometime, jog over to the wonderful UN Heritage town of San Miguel de Allende. I'm sure any number of area bookstores would love to sponsor you. Or go incognito!

Hi, in the meet and greet you will be holding in your hotel from 5 to 6 pm will you be signing books? I have not seen anything about a signing from 1130 to 12, Im really looking forward to it!

PS: Can I bring you some typical food from my city or a little gift to you? The food is not big, it´s a little box of a very delicious type of smarshmellows that everyone I know loves

South of the border...
When you say 'South Of The Border' does that mean all the way south to the lands Down Under, to Australia? haha ;)

Any plans to come to Australia over the next year or two mate?

(don't forget when winter is coming in the US, we don't have to dream of spring down here anymore, summer has come)

Also
Your blog posts make my day, whether it's you posting or one of the minions in your entourage. I have given up looking at many websites on the internet for the sake of avoiding all the superfluous shit that flows through the drains of the internet. Yet, this is one place that I find myself visiting everyday.

Please, try Don Julio 70 (Tequila)
Hello George,
Welcome to Guadalajara! I recommended you this Tequila, some folks from Chandler tried and they really like it.
I warning you, here are a lot of expectation about your visit and I believe you gonna be received like a king and is gonna be crazy. Please enjoy your visit.

I didn't get a ticket for the conference but I have a question:

Do you think your histories are reality with some epic and magician make up or an epic tale portraying reality?

Have a nice trip. Thank you.

You signed my book.
Dear R R Martin, You signed my book yesterday, I waited for you out of the building since 4:00 A.M. and waited there for 7 hours, when the time finally came, I was in front of you but I was dehydrated and with a lot of necesity to go to the bathroom (the guards didn't allow us to go to the bathroom), you asked me: "how are you doing?" I told you "it's an honor to meet you, welcome to mexico" and then you signed my book, then you realized that I had a little postit saying "Tulio Stark" and you told me "oh! you are an stark?" and I told you "of course I am" then you closed my book and you saw me to the eye and told me "well the winter is comming" that was all, at the end I just told you "Mexico loves you sir" and after 7 hours of waiting everything ended in 15 or 20 seconds, I would wish to say somenthing smarter, like for example that I also likes to write fantasy tales, create characters, etc. But I was dehydrated and not feeling well, but it doesn't matter, those brief seconds were magical.
