Wild Card Artwork Wanted

We've added a couple cool new things to the official Wild Cards website.

First off, a new blog post about Superworld, the role-playing game that inspired Wild Cards, from Steve Perrin, who created it.

Also, we've added a brand new art gallery at http://www.wildcardsworld.com/art-gallery/

Thing is, there's no art in the art gallery... yet. That's where we hope you will come in. We want Wild Cards art! Yes, we'll be putting up some of the superb cover art and interior illustrations that the books have featured over the decades, but we also hope this page will be a place to showcase some fan art, and maybe discover some new talent.

So if you've got that restless urge to draw, and own a paintbrush or a box of colored pencils, we'd love to see what you can do. There's a link right on the page where you can send your work. Everything that's appropriate will be posted (please note, we want Wild Cards artwork ONLY, so don't send us portraits of Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen, or Harry Potter, or Spider-Man, or ANYTHING that is not Wild Cards inspired).

Also, if you look through the author bios and character sketches elsewhere on the site, you'll note that there are many Wild Cards characters who have NEVER been illustrated. We've love to have some thumbnails to add to those entries. We don't promise to accept anything or everything... but for those who send us something cool enough to make the cut, we have free autographed hardcovers of INSIDE STRAIGHT.

Fly high, aces.

Artwork for Aces
Reminds me of the lady in Pear Shaped Man. As I recall, didn't end well for her. Deviantart seems to have a lot of terrific stuff. There are an amazing number of talented people who have done art for ASOIAF. It would surprise me if you did not get a tremendous turnout for Wildcards.

What a great opportunity!
It's just awesome that you give people the opportunity to show their work, but also that readers now have a way to see how others imagine their favorite characters. I can't wait!!

About Wildcards
I haven't read Wildcards yet. What is it about? Is it a fantasy book?
But I have read A Song of Ice and Fire.
Oh what a book series!I will compare its complexity to the epic 'Mahabharatha'.
Unlike 'A Song of Ice and Fire' major characters don't die in 'Mahabharatha'.
But their children do.
I love your work sir.You are great

Re: About Wildcards
One of these days, someone is going to come to this blog and post:

I don't really know much about this Song of Ice and Fire thing, but man, I love your work on Wild Cards!

On that day, the universe will implode.

Re: About Wildcards
There are such people. Admittedly, they are a minority.

For that matter, I have fans who like FEVRE DREAM best, who want more Haviland Tuf, who would like me to get back to writing more SF short stories about the Thousand Worlds.

Would that I could clone myself, and keep everyone happy.

Re: About Wildcards
I'm over here excited about Dunk and Egg, because we know the end, but not the truth of the journey.

Re: About Wildcards
I am more interested in the art than in the ASOIAF...So there is at least one of us!

I have commissioned numerous paintings from the broader GRRM World, and plan on doing 3-4 more a year, until all the stories are covered.

Tuf Voyaging - By Janet Aulisio
Tuf Voyaging, by Jim Burns
Tuf Voyaging, by John Harris
Bitterblooms, by Mark Poole
Glass Flower, by Donato
Fevre Dream, by Vince Natale
Song for Lya, by Armand Cabrera
Sandkings, by Chris Moore
Starport, by Chris Moore
Exit to San Breta, by Mark Harrison
Windhaven, by Bob Eggleton
Peregrine, by Armando Huerta
*** secret commission forthcoming *** by Michael Whelan :)

...and of course, some ASOIAF art (which goes nicely with the Jim Burns first edition covers)... But there are a few of us that are more into the art than who ends up on the Iron Throne...

Cheers from Canada!

Hey George!!1 I think I've mentioned before I'm an oil painter. Is there a particular character you's enjoy seeing painted that hasn't been done before or one that is just your favorite?

Re: Favorite
Almost all the Ice & Fire characters have been done, and exceedingly well, by amazing artists like Gary Gianni, Michael Komarck, John Picacio, Didier Graffet, Magali Villeneuve, Donato Giancola, and many many more.

However, there are dozens of great Wild Cards characters who have never been done at all, or have been done only once or twice. That includes a number of my own characters. If I had to pick one... hmmmm... I think I'd go with Hoodoo Mama.

RE: Re: Favorite
All right George, I'm on it! It might take me a little bit as I'm in the middle of another painting now (and working at my other job... teaching 4th graders ), but I'll get it done and send it to you at the cinema. Thanks, should be an easy one!

Fan Mail
Hey George,

Do you accept and sign fan mail? You're my favorite author. If you did, that would be so amazing. Im a huge Eagles fan so you may not want to sign something for me being a Giants fan! Haha!

Re: Fan Mail
Sorry, I can no longer sign books sent to me in the mail. I did for many years, but there got to be too many.

However, signed copies of all my books are available from the Jean Cocteau bookshop.
