Cool Times at the JCC

We had a great event on Saturday with John Nichols. Terrific writer and fascinating guy, whose work truly captures the sights, sounds, and spirit of Northern New Mexico. Lorene Mills did a wonderful job interviewing him. We should have the video up on the Jean Cocteau website soon.

And tonight, at 7pm, we have JOHN SCALZI flying in. John's touring for his new novel, THE COLLAPSING EMPIRE, and we're thrilled to have him.

See you at the theatre!

Not a blog updates
Hey George,

We've been noticing some posts on other forms of social media lately e.g. Twitter/Facebook, Love your robot btw.

Do I need to continue to look for posts from you on these other sites? or can I still use Not a blog for a one stop shop of all that is GRRM?

Re: Not a blog updates
It depends on whether you want substantive posts or silly pictures.

I do have two cats, a tortoise, and (somewhere) three turtles. I could start posting pictures of them.

RE: Re: Not a blog updates
I dig seeing all the things you're interested in (silly or not). Glad you're expanding into more social media. Was just curious, I'd probably download Snapchat if you started one. (Please don't) ;)

Re: Not a blog updates
I for one would love that if it is not too much trouble. Do any of them have teke?

You made a flippant comment about posting pictures of your pets, but it has made me wonder about the names of your pets, George.
I am mostly curious to learn if people from Australia are able to purchase signed books from your bookshop. As far see I could see on the website it is not possible. Is this correct?

Sadly, Augustus -- or Gus -- died a decade ago.

Caligula -- or Boots -- is still with us. He's twenty-four years old.

NAMES! It is my husband's birthday today and I think it would be an awesome gift to me for you to share your pets names. I have several animals myself and I love the processes of choosing appropriate monikers for the little beasties.

Re: Not a blog updates
Something I've been meaning to ask for quite a while actually (and now, at last, it's sort of on-topic / a propos):

You are fond of wolves, you have space, so I guess my question is - no dogs?

(FYI some of your online short bios mention you having a "big white dog called Mischa", which kind of prompted the question)

Re: Joy
We hope you keep the joy of writing (yeah I know its also work...) - but we want you to love your work. We hope Winds gives us both harrowing (i.e. exiting) stuff and also some hope - world needs a bit of it.

Speaking of hope I'm off to vote in Georgia's special election for congress. For those who don't follow this stuff, one of the candidates has been the victum of numerous attack ads for dressing up as Hans Solo for a college halloween party. Guess who I'm voting for...Its vote your Ossoff time.

Just got Scalzi's new book and will plunge in once I finish a War of the Roses history (Battle Royale), I'm in the middle of (by the way the book, by a noted historian, pays tribute to your efforts to popularize this period of history).

Keep writing - its good for all of us.

NYCC 2017
Your Grace, if I can take a moment:

I wrote via this blog the other week that I ran an 8 hour track of Game of Thrones/ A Song of Ice and Fire panels at my local Long Island-area convention. Pretty small because we're re-starting up. I asked via the blog if you could ask NYC-area folk such as Anne Groelle (editor) or Gardner Dozois (editor, Book of Swords/Sons of the Dragon, Philadelphia area) if they could come but didn't hear back.

I was working up my "resume" in the local cons so that I'm now applying to run Westeros panels at New York Comic Con 2017. Odds of getting in are slim (they didn't have programming the past 2 years) but I hope prior experience gives me a boost.

I figured I might as well ask again, this time far in advance: would you be willing to ask either Dozois or Groell if they'd be open to guesting at a panel I'd run on World of Ice and Fire/Fire and Blood/Sons of the Dragon? Their appearance would give us a better chance of having ANY panel.

The thought particularly struck me because "Book of Swords" is due for release in October, and NYCC is in October too, so it's timed well to help promote the release (the first published Westeros material we're getting in 3 years).

The King of Literature
George you are an amazing person and deserve the title that is the subject of this post. You have bethrowed many emotions within me throughout your literature and have lead me to be as strong as you are. To make things sweet and simple your strength and dedication to your work amazes me and millions of others. You've lead me to do great things and will always be a mentor to me because of your dedication to your work. With love, peasant of your kingdom, Noah.

Hey George have you ever had The Big Lebowski at The JCC? That'd be something I'd fly down from Montana for. And speaking of the Big Lebowski I hear you like a White Russian from time to time. Any other adult beverages you like? Cheers.

Yes, we have shown the Big Lebowski. The Dude abides. 🙂
