No Draft For Me

I am looking forward to having a great time this weekend at Stokercon... but I am a little bummed that it's happening on the same weekend as the NFL Draft, which I usually watch gavel to gavel.

I guess the members of the HWA are not into NFL football. Feh. How can they understand the true nature of horror unless they're fans of the New York Jets?

I guess I will need to get by this year without my annual dose of Chris Berman and Mel Kiper. I do plan to check in from time to time. Surely the Queen Mary has ESPN.

If wishes were fishes, both of my teams would land running backs. I want the Jets to draft Leonard Fournette with the sixth overall pick, and the Giants to take Christian McCaffery. I loves me a good running game. Smashmouth football rules!

Many of the mocks are projecting that both teams will get tight ends instead: OJ Howard to Gang Green, David Njoku to Big Blue. That would be good as well. A great TE can make a huge difference.

What the G-Men need most of all, of course, is a huge road-grinder of an offensive lineman.

The Jets need everything.

This is funny! Now I KNOW what "A Dream of Spring" really means. However, being green isn't enough! Just ask Dr. Banner, Shrek, Kermie, or Jets fans!

Bucky Hodges out of VT
could end up being the best TE out of this draft class, which is saying something. 6'6, 257 lbs, and ran a 4.57. Great athlete and the best receiving tight end in this class.

Bucky out of Vermont? They should call him the Winter Soldier.

I hear there is mutual interest between the Giants and Blount who could provide a good short yardage gasher. Loved that they picked up Marshall, that's a pretty nice set of receivers to spread the defense.

Jets draft
Jets need a lot more than this draft has to offer. Even if they had a 6th, 7th and 8th pick, the team would still be horrible next year..
1st round pick up was Safety Jamal Adams. He should fill that hole Revis left . Now all they need is a Qb,RB, Olb,ILB, TE,C,DT,CB And a head coach.
Record prediction next season 3-14 .. and I'm being generous . .. Cheers 🍺 To another classic jet season .

well they hit the nail on the head, giants did take a TE but he's more of a receiving type. could be deadly with the WR's the g-men have. and the jets finally got some much needed help in the secondary. adams has a very high floor and is a great off the field leader. all in all a good day for both of jersey's teams.

I'm hopeful the new front office of the Niners might actually know what they are doing. It has been quite a few years since I could say that about anyone, outside of Harbaugh, associated with the Yorks. Lynch stole those draft picks from the Bears and made good use of them to give themselves a second first round pick. Thomas and Foster both look like bona fide stars in the making.

Of course, there are far too many positions that need quality players to fill them on the Niners's roster. But this is a good start.

It was a fun night George. All these offensive players were overdrafted and really good players fell down to the NFC East teams. You should make the Bears' GM into a motley fool in your next book.

My Cowboys did ok. Your Giants did ok. The Jets were lucky and got a great player. Redskins did great. Eagles did pretty good too. The draft is usually my favorite day of the NFL calendar.

I think that your Jets hit it out of the park with Jamal Adams. I've heard people calling him the next Ed Reed, and it seems... well, a little hyperbolic, but only a little hyperbolic.

Evan Engram sounds like he's not the strongest blocker in the world, but if you compare him to Larry Donnell or Martellus Bennett he might as well be a Jeremy Shockey or even Jordan Reed. I don't think he's a grand slam prospect like Jamal Adams, but he's a smart, solid choice.

Yes agree with you. Jets should be delighted with Jamal. Seems to ooze energy and charisma. Regarding his plays he has that decisiveness and just a touch more uncapped aggression that you like to see. I see him as a cross between Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman which is as good as you'll get in the Secondary. Giants pick was okay though I'd like to read more on why they rated Engram above Njoku. And why they didnt pick someone on the O-Line (only 1 had gone by that point) is another question that needs answer.

NFL Draft
Thank god the Gmen lost out on OJ Howard that dude is an animal. Going to be hard enough for the Eagles to cover Odell and Marshall.

Dalvin Cook
As an FSU student I've gotta ask how you would feel about the Jets taking Dalvin Cook at the top of the 2nd round?

NYG passing game!
I love the TE pick. I think between him, shep, OBJ, and Marshall it will be a nightmare to cover!

I do agree that I wish we had a stronger RB game. How I miss the days of Jacobs/Bradshaw...

Chris Berman
He is unfortunately no longer doing the draft. It was Trey Wingo last night.

Not a bad first round.
Jets with SS Jamal Adams and the Giants with TE Evan Engram eh? Not bad, Adams was my #2 safety in the draft and Engram my #2 TE. That being said Adams is a day 1 starter who will really help the Jets secondary. Giants should've gone OL though imo oh well. My Colts got my #1 safety Malik Hooker from OSU so I'm a happy fan today. Colts defense was atrocious last season. Secondary especially, so this pick will help solidify the back. Hopefully round two we get a DE and a RB. Cheers!

New York just got another great safety in Jamal Adams, I don't think he'll be as good as Landon Collins turned out, but maybe I'm just biased.
As for the Giants, I was personally hoping for Reuben Foster, but for him to fall that much, there has to be grave concern over his shoulder. I wouldn't call the Engram pick disappointing, but it wasn't who I had in mind. Same thing happened with Eli Apple last year though and he turned into a stud. Hopefully Engram does the same and lives up to the Jordan Reed comparisons. There was a video on NFL.com comparing their two 40 yard dashes and Engram was way in front of Reed. He also has faster time than prolific receivers such as A.J. Green, DeAndre Hopkins, and our own Odell Beckham Jr. Here's to a great season for both teams and hopefully the fifth Super Bowl for the New York Giants:)

Adams does look good.
