One thing you may not know is that we're also an art gallery... well, kinda sorta. We have two walls in our lobby where we display the works of local and visiting artists, changing up every thirty days or so. I haven't talked about that aspect of the JCC nearly as much.
But this month we have something very cool and unusual on our walls, a really stunning display of glass swords by local Santa Fe artist G. Michael Smith.

I might not want to go into battle with a glass sword -- give me Valyrian steel -- but they sure are pretty to look at. Come by and see them in person if you get the chance.

In Elder Scrolls series of games there are glass swords, and other weapons and armor, conversely they are actually very good.
Now that you mentioned Valyrian steel, is Valyrian steel just the matter of craftsmanship (and pinch of magic craftsmanship) like say Damascus steel or is it special alloy and there is some other physical ingredient added to make it so awesome? Like meteorite ore, or volcanic ore, or dragon bone, or blood, or dragon blood?
(I can't believe I'm the first one to post that here!)
I was reminded of an independant comic called "Fathom". In it, Fathom has an enemy named Kiani, and she carries a huge glass sword. This collection brought me right back to that. How I would love to see it. If the artist has a website I'd definitely check it out.
In other news, These talks about subsequent ASOIF series on HBO are intriguing. I've had my hand up for quite awhile in this regard, and it will remain up, because I wish to add my voice to an awesome choir. Should you be so inclined, I would not let you down. In the meantime, I'm
checking out those swords. Cheers!
Sort of keeping in line with artists creating fantastic things, I thought you and your fans might be interested to know that Character Design Challenge (CDC is a monthly contest where artists submit characters based on a theme) is doing Game of Thrones/ASOIAF.

My favorite one is so far is the skinchanger with an owl. Worth a look!
Thanks for the wonderful writing and editing!
