Run Fast, Jon Snow

Jon Snow is running in the Melbourne Cup.

Or so my Aussie friends inform me.

For those who don't live Down Under, the Melbourne Cup is the biggest horse race in Australia, and one of the biggest in the world. Like our Kentucky Derby, but much much older.

Phar Lap won it once.

Can Jon Snow do the same?

It's not THAT much older. Kentucky Derby was first run in 1875. Melbourne Cup was inaugurated in 1861. America probably would have done it earlier too, if it hadn't been for that pesky Civil War.

Ha! I just noticed another horse is named "Wall of Fire". Good Luck, Jon Snow :)

Not WOW related - NFL
George, I always find your NFL insights interesting... Just wondering how you are feeling about those J-E-T-S after a dubious decision on Sunday put a dampener on a surprisingly good start to the season? And can Eli and (depleted) Co. push on after a shock upset of Denver?

I love reading this blog and the wide variety of topics ! But slightly random question, what do you think of young adult novels ? And what would you say is your favourite book of all time ?

Ok so I don't usually have a bet on Cup day but how can I not chuck $10 on number 15 Jon Snow!

Had to be done
Can I be the first to say "you neigh nothing, Jon Snow,"?

Phar Lap
Phar Lap sounds Ghiscari almost. Let's just hope Viserion doesn't catch his scent during the Battle of Fire.

Run Jon Snow!
Too bad there wasn't a horse named, "White Walker." We could have all said, "Run like a White Walker is chasing you!" 😁

Did you know there's a Winterfell Investment company? I just happened upon it now, whilst looking for that Winterfell desktop sculpture thingamagig.. Strange choice, isn't it (for the capitalist swine!)? haha

Six Degrees of Separation
Good morning! I would not want to disrespect your rule of asking questions or saying comments that are not on subject. I've had a question for you that I have wanted to ask for awhile but never really find a good time to post it. Since you mentioned Jon Snow, although referring to a horse, I thought I might pull a Mirri Maz Duur on you and ask my question.

People love to speculate and theorize about ASOIAF. There are so many awesome theories out there. Some are right on the money and some are really crazy, far out there but none the less interesting. My question to you is, does it or would it upset you if a fan has a theory that does end up being correct and a potential spoiler of sorts? Would you rather people kept their theories to themselves or are you fine with the numerous channels out there discussing theories?

#1 Fan #999,999,991

Ps. I'm sorry for the loss of your dear friend. I too lost a dear friend just three days ago. The world truly is dimmer.

Re: Six Degrees of Separation
Fans can discuss theories to their heart's content on Westeros, Tower of the Hand, and other fan sites. They should not involve me.

Jon Snow the racehorse has collected $1.8 million in prize money so far, according to a recent story in the Weekend Australian newspaper. The newspaper article described the horse John Snow as follows: ‘just when he looks gone he comes back to life.’
There are though many other Australian racehorses inspired by GOT including Dothraki, Khal Drogo, Kahaleesi, Lord Tyrion, Arya, Ygritte, Unsullied, Lannister, Mance Raydar, Mother of Dragons, Joffrey, Winterfell and Valor Morghulis. None of these will be racing in the Melbourne Cup though.
The Melbourne Cup is the most important horse race in Australia. It is celebrated by a public holiday in the state of Victoria and huge numbers people in every state of Australia take part in office sweepstakes to draw a horse which they will barrack for. Workers pause for a few minutes to gather around television sets or computers to watch the race in the afternoon. I hope John Snow is successful on Melbourne Cup day in November although I wish Lord Tyrion had qualified for the race!
