Sunday Woes

The Jets are playing better football than anyone could have expected.

And the Giants are unbelievably bad. Before the season began, some people had them picked as SuperBowl contenders. Instead they are contending for the number one draft pick.

"That's why they play the games," Chris Berman used to say.

(And damn, do I miss Chris Berman. ESPN's Sunday COUNTDOWN has become unwatchable without him and Tom Jackson. I've deleted my season pass).

Weirdest NFL season I can remember.

Badly needed bye week.
After a strong start my Chiefs dropped 3 of 4. Hopefully coach Reid and the staff get things back on track.

Do you think the Eagles are serious Super Bowl contenders or will they fade down the stretch?

Giants Changes?
The easy thing for people to say is that the Giants need a coaching change. I certainly think McAdoo is on his way out, but with the way some of the talent and positions have been managed do you think some of the problems are systemic at the front office level? I believe San Francisco has the same problems. The only reason I bring it up is that even in recent years when New York was very competitive, and I don't mean the super bowl years, just seemed to me like something was holding the team back.

Green Bay feels your pain
The northern folk feel your pain. The loss the Rodgers in GB really exposed all of our weaknesses and proved one man can make/break a team. At least Eli is healthy. Good luck to the Jets.

Watching my Redskins win was an unexpected pleasure on Sunday. Hope they keep Kirk Cousins!

Feeling the same
As a Packer fan, I'm feeling the same way. Once Aaron Rodgers went down the season has become a nightmare. Our backup QB has struggled and our defense is exposed because Rodgers can bail them out. Wish we could get Rex Ryan as our new defensive coordinator but I doubt that will happen...

That was gut-wrenching.
Was down at the local sports bar watching the games with my buddy who's a Giant's fan. Both of our teams are having rough years (Colts fan). As a joke, we decided to have a shot for every TD the opposing team scored on our feeble teams. Needless to say he had to quit early lol. Well at least my Colts got a W, and I didn't get too trashed. Do you go out and watch the games George? Usually I just watch the Red Zone at home. But it's fun to go out and get some wings and beers once in a while.

What have Giants fans done to deserve Ben McAdoo's incompetence?

NY Giants Quarterback
Do you think that Eli is finished and has gone over the proverbial cliff? He made many bad throws this weekend and maybe has been a little exposed by not having OBJ to make bad passes look good.

Re: NY Giants Quarterback
I think Eli needs an offensive line.

Weird Season Indeed...
...with the weirdest thing being the Los Angeles Rams. Aside from their weird-looking helmets (I loved the blue background with the bright yellow horns -- the white horns look absolutely atrocious, especially since they still have yellow on their uniforms), they're playing some really good football. Gurley is awesome, and Goff is actually living up to his first-pick pedigree. I thought when they came from behind to beat my Cowboys that it was just another instance of the Dallas defense collapsing due to a lack of depth and talent late in the game. And it might have been partly that, but it was more of a case of the Rams just being pretty freakin' good right now. Looks like Sean McVay and Wade Phillips really have something going. Good for them.

You have to admit though, as rough as things are for the Giants, you can't be too disappointed because the Jets are really playing PHENOMENALLY when you consider the level of talent they have. We're seeing a lot of great young players making plays on the Jets, and I think this is laying the foundation for what could be a great superbowl team in 3-4 years. I think if we can sign Cousins next year, address OLB, Offensive Tackle, cornerback in the draft, and address Running Back in free agency (and assuming that Enunwa recovers and we resign Claiborne and cut or restructure Mo), we will be a top team. Adams, Maye, Lee, Anderson, Shell, and McGuire are all going to be stellar when they develop more.

I would love to see the Jets going to the Super Bowl in 3-4 years! I'm a Dolphins fan, but the Jets have struggled through frustrating mismanagement and ineptitude for so long that I would be genuinely happy for them (and their fans) to see them recover from their troubles and become a great team again. One thing's for sure, the successes will feel so sweet after all the years of struggle. :)

I'd like to add Eric Tomlinson to your list of players who are quietly building into something special. He may never be a Hall of Famer, but he could become a very dependable pair of hands, and a solid blocker.

Eli Manning
George, I'm a big Giants fan and have been for years. I'm also a big Eli fan. I'm starting to wonder if his time is running short. I know it's not his fault we suck, but he's not helping. Do you think it's time we went after a big time QB in the draft to push Eli?

Re: Eli Manning
I think Eli has a few years left. And we should see what we have in Webb before drafting anyone else.

Well, those Jets smoked my Buffalo Bills on national television. I think both of our teams play better as the perceived "underdogs"... and with that being said I sure wish national media would stop giving the Bills attention!
