Huge, Huge News

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

Re: Ok, but
If you've seen other HBO-produced original shows like The Sopranos, Deadwood, Rome, and Band of Brothers, I think you'll know that there's nothing at all to worry about regarding censoring lots of things like language, sex, and violence.

What seems sure to happen is that some of the younger characters will be made a bit older, according David Benioff and Dan Weiss, for several reasons. George has previously said that he would have added a couple of years to the ages of the characters if he could, but circumstances don't allow him to do that; but it's not an issue for the HBO production. Another reason would have to do with the very pragmatic issue that there are strict rules for the safety of child actors, including limits on how many hours they can work in a day, which would be awkward for a production if it has many minors in significant roles. And with somewhat older characters, certain mature scenes in the books may be able to play out on screen without any concerns.

Re: Ok, but
i disagree. especially deadwood was very far away from realism or good actors. rome... the hardest what happended was the whipping scene, which was even for my standards very hard, but the rest was not as harsh as it really was in roman times. and even band of brothers was softened for the greater good. and compared to the graphic an medival realism(or drasticism xD) of some of georges scenes i am (rather convinced that loads of scenes won't make it into the series. i am speaking mainly of cersei and her brother, the end of one of starks sons, various acts of sexual abuse and so on. under normal circumstances i wouldn't mind loosing somme of the ghastly scenes, which in my mind look like livin' hell on earth, but they carry important parts of the story. To put my concerns simple:a good script/ story does not guarantee that director and producers will tag along for the fans or the right feel.
in the end they will compromise, but the question remains: will those compromises be acceptable, or will they mutilate the story in order to make it mass compatible?
