My friend Janice Gelb sent me this great link from The Onion.

Wolves will Return to Winterfell
After years of telling my friend about the series he and his woman have started it. One of the biggest selling points I pointed to was that nothing is sacred. Characters are real! They live, love, hate and DIE!

One of the concearns they have been bringing up is on the subject of the Stark living through this. I remember Jojen saying that Wolves will rule again in Winterfell. I have visions of Bran floating through the air and wielding some wicked magic or controlling a dragon with his warg power (the flying wolf). What's it going to be George?

I have a bad feeling that Rickon might not become one of the honerable Starks we have come to love.

I havn't read too much into these comments but is there any thread about Jon possibly being a Targaryen?

Re: Wolves will Return to Winterfell
Not sure how I missed it but that does seem to be the concensus on here. Most seem to believe that Jon is the bastard born from Lyanna & Rhaegar

Online Appendixes?
I had read that you are finally having someone create an online interactive map of Westeros to add to your website. What about also creating an interactive version of the Family Tree Appendixes that are in the back of your books?

Thank you so much - Spoilers Warning!!!
Thank you so much guys for ruining me the books.

There is a thing in Netiquette called "Spoilers ahead" or "Spoiler warning" that works as a sign for people who are beginning reading "Song of Ice and Fire" saga.

Now I know That Robb dies, because somebody "shared with us" the moment that he talked about this with some friend.

Very selfish to post something like that in a blog without thinking in the other readers at all.

What the hell am I supposed to now?, I don't even have the will to continue reading the saga.

Re: Thank you so much - Spoilers Warning!!!
Although new sample chapters, of course, are for the next book, not the first or second or third books. It would be best if there were a warning on the "Not a Blog" that there are "Spoilers Ahead" in the replies.

i have never heard of these books or the author in question but i seriously doubt that there is any truth to that article because most if not all of the articles on the onion are fake

Re: umm..
It is fake it was just a little joke between George and a friend who stumble on the article and he wanted to share it with us, that's all.

The Red Viper-Spoiler Alert
I agree that it hurt when all the other characters were killed off blah blah blah. I put the book down for a month when Ned died and 3 days when Robb died. One that I am still coming to grips with is Oberyn Dorne. I mean, the guy got along fabulously with Tyrion, have that loveable sense of confidence, and loved whores! And you killed him after 1/4 of a book. Just shoot me now. Also, come on, Brienne and Pod are not dead yet. She shouted one word, which I am sure will lead to their salvation. Get over yourselves on that one for now.

Not a P____ :(
My mother and I still haven't gotten over you killing Ned! (Though we are partial to a killing of Cersei--her character's gone a bit over the top--just drop a boulder on her and be done)...

PS: Take your time on Dance--we love to hear about your house, miniatures, and ruminations.
Also, any secret Ice and Fire Plans in the works are sure to excite us all--the book will still be there. ;)

spoiler... Ned and Joffrey not so different
My husband has started the series, and I've dipped into the first book again to refresh my memory. Remember the very beginning, when one of the black barely escapes the Others, only to be called a deserter and executed by Ned? I remember that it made me furious at the start, but because Ned was otherwise so nice (or seemed to be in the context of the other characters at Winterfell), I forgave him for it. Ned judged without evidence, saying that the deserter could not be redeemed; once a traitor he would become worse and worse. But Joffrey is so nasty all the time we immediately impune him for the exact same "justice." Arya learns to "see with your eyes" from Syrio who is Bravosi, and that fear is the worst enemy, but because of many brushes with death she leaves that "seeing" for the house of black and white; which is quite literally a blind alley. She needs to get back to the grey... maybe Syrio's house or friends in Bravos? Leaving her name and history won't help her at all, after all, she is angry at death since she saw the cruelty of Joffrey's "justice," her anger at death has allowed her to use death, but she will never be truly a servant of death.

I think it's supposed to be Robert Jordan.

Really subtle references to seasons in the title of the books. :)

Hello George
Sorry to use your Live Journal for this but try as hard as I might I couldn't find your regular enmail address (No best email of the month for me then ay!)

I've read all of the Song of Ice and Fire novels to date and am quite keen for the release of Dance with Dragons (good luck with that) but that's not why I am writing to you now.

I realise that you get more emails and comments than you can possibly answer and for that I am again sorry to be taking up your time with such a trivial matter but.........

I am part of an Alternative Music forum for Glasgow's music scene and have been set the challenge of emailing a celebrity with a mundane question in the hopes of getting a response, I've been reading your LJ for months now and often thought of posting a comment but thought better of it because I didn't want to annoy you, as soon as this task was set however your name popped into my head first.

So the question I ask you is this, how many blows to the head do you think it would take you to kill the Queen of England if all you had to hit her with was a rubber chicken?

Please please please respond, you can send a message to me through LJ (I think) or at my MySpace page at www.myspace.com/pacouk

Hope to hear from you soon.

Re: Hello George
Thank you for the question. While I'm not Mr. Martin, I thought I'd answer as I am a bit of a celebrity.

17 - I say 17 because with my yoga training I am lethal with a rubber chicken (or any form of poultry).

Warm regards,

Am I the only person who thinks that GRRM seems to want a break from ASOIAF? Or to quit altogether? "Hey, time to pick up on The Hedge Knight again!"
Oct. 7th, 2006 01:32 pm (UTC)
Yes you are the only person!! What do you think he is doing, picking his hole or something.

Dances with Dragons
When you released the last book, you said you had written so much that it was too much for one book so it would be broken into two. Wouldn't this mean that the next book, Dances with Dragons should be almost done? Cmon already. I had to reread all the books before reading the last one. Now if it goes much longer, I'm going to have to read them all again.

Blinded society
Thank you!!! I thought I was alone in the world with my non-patriotic views. I can not believe there are so many blind and mindless people in America (or do they believe only what they want to believe). We are no more free than people in other countries. The only difference is that our government does a better job at lying about it and other countries are more open about there limits on freedom. Any time I say anything about the lack of freedom we have, people look at me like how dare you even think a thing like that especially in times like these.
I don't want to sit on my soap box, and take up too much of your time. Thank you though for letting me see that there are people around who have there eyes open to the things that are going on around them. Oh, and by the way don't give up hope on the younger generation; I am 28 and haven't yet forgotten how to think for myself.

It the hint is really from Jordan, then all GRRM readers beware :

Jordan's wheel of time full of spoiled children tossed in a story to save the world from Evil. It would be a very good script if it was written by Terry Pratchett, but alas it's not.

People who liked song of Ice and Fire will hate the correctness of the Wheel. So beware, do not waste your time and money on these books. You have been warned.

All the Wild Cards books under Tor have had absolutely stellar covers. I'd frame them and hang them on my wall if I could.

Are all these examples digital artwork? It doesn't look like traditional oil on canvas. I miss the fantasy/sci-fi covers of the '70s and '80s. Even the paperbacks had amazing covers.

Any chance you could tell us who’s doing the cover art for Fire and Blood? And maybe when we can expect a glimpse of it. Thank you!
