The Beans Are Spilled

Well, the first two beans, anyway. There will be many more beans to come.

But HBO has signed a director for the GAME OF THRONES pilot, and the first cast member has come aboard as well.

The pilot will be helmed by Tom McCarthy, director of THE VISITOR and THE STATION AGENT.

And playing Tyrion Lannister will be Peter Dinklage, who was almost everyone's "dream casting" for the role (he certainly was mine):

I'm thrilled.

Things are starting to move a lot faster now. The rest of the year is going to be exciting!

Oh, an American actor? It's an American actor! I'm a bit surprised, though strangely pleased.

Makes me want to move to Ireland. I'm so glad the suits greenlighted (greenlit?) this project. Kudos to the pitchmen/pitchpeople.

I have a place in my heart for Tyrion, but Peter Dinklage is a bit handsome for how I imagine Tyrion.

It doesn't matter, I think the casting is fantastic! So very excited.

Awesome choice for Tyrion.

I think Queen Cersei should be played by Tricia Helfer.

Any thoughts on that one?

Tricia Helfer
Tricia would be great, but she's got another pilot filming now - a comedy, actually. So she probably won't be available.

YAY YAY YAY!

I have nothing intelligent to say. I just thought you might be amused to know that I'm dancing around and squeeing with excitement.

Can't wait to see this. Will Ferrell as Little Finger? Just so they can work together again? (Joke)

Peter Denklage wasn't even on my radar. His face looks too normal for the role of Tyrion IMO, but then again makeup can fix that. He was certainly hilarious in 30 Rock a few months ago so I have faith.

I know that Tyrion is often depicted as "ugly" but his being a dwarf is far and away the more character-defining attribute. They don't need to ugly him up. That all said, Peter Dinklage was really the ONLY good choice for Tyrion. Color me excited.

All the Wild Cards books under Tor have had absolutely stellar covers. I'd frame them and hang them on my wall if I could.

Are all these examples digital artwork? It doesn't look like traditional oil on canvas. I miss the fantasy/sci-fi covers of the '70s and '80s. Even the paperbacks had amazing covers.

Whatever anyone can get their hands on is, I suspect, the right answer.

Any chance you could tell us who’s doing the cover art for Fire and Blood? And maybe when we can expect a glimpse of it. Thank you!
